Potential problems students may have with the language: If students have any
difficulty to understand the new vocabulary, the T will have flashcards to show them.
Assessment: The new vocabulary will be assessed trough a cooperative game.
Procedure:
Routine (3 minutes)
(The students are always sitting on the floor waiting for the teacher) The teacher will
greet the students: “Hello children! And she will encourage students to answer: “Hello Miss
Nadia!” Then, she will ask them, “How are you today? Are you happy? Are you sad?” And
she’ll encourage them to answer YES or NO. (While the T asks these questions, she will
show them two flashcards and mime the moods).
The T will teach them a new “hello song”. She will tell them: “Today we will sing a
new song”. She will ask ss to hold up their hands and she will encourage them to repeat
each sentence after her. The song is: “Hello children, hello children. How are you? How
are you? How are you today? How are you today? Very well! Very well!”
The T will ask them: “So, how are you today?” She will encourage them to answer:
“Very well, thank you”
Warm – up (10 minutes)
The T will show them a magic wand and a witch hat. She will say to them: “Look at
my magic wand and my witch hat” while she shows them to the ss. She will put on the hat
and do magic for the ss to stand up. She will tell them: “Today I will do some magic. 1, 2, 3
stand up please”. Then, she will play some music and say: “1, 2, and 3 dance please”. We
will dance but when the T stops the music they have to be as statues, (they learnt this last
week) she will say to them “1, 2, 3 frozen please!) and she will pick up a real school object
from a bag and show it to them. She will ask them: “What is this? The T will encourage ss
to answer: “It is a pencil case”, the T will ask: “Is it pink?” and the T will encourage them to
answer: “Yes, it is”. We will follow the same procedure with: pencil, rubber, sharpener,
paper and glue.
The T will tell them: “You are excellent dancers! Now, 1, 2, 3 sit down please!”
Presentation (7 minutes)
We will sit down in a circle. The T will show ss the picture of the teddy bear Gloria
and ask, them: “Do you remember her, what’s her name?” and she will elicit her name.
3. Then, the T will tell ss: “Today we are going to listen to a story about Gloria and the
school”, she will also show them a school picture. The T will tell them the story:
“Everyday Gloria has to decide what objects she has to take to the school. She picks up
two school bags and she asks:
Do I need a BIG school bag or a SMALL school bag? A BIG school bag.
Then, she asks: Do I need a BIG pencil case or a SMALL pencil case? A BIG pencil case.
Then, she asks: Do I need a BIG pencil or a SMALL pencil? A small pencil.
Then, she asks: Do I need a BIG rubber or a SMALL rubber? A small rubber.
Then, she asks: Do I need a BIG sharpener or a SMALL sharpener? A small sharpener.
And finally, she asks: Do I need a BIG glue or a SMALL glue? A BIG glue.
And then she can go to school and be with her friends.”
While the T is telling the story, she will show ss some pictures of the school objects. She
will show them a big and small one for ss to understand the language. And she will stick on
the wall the one that Gloria wants.
The T will say to them: “Do you like the story?” and she will encourage them to answer:
“Yes, I do”
Development
Activity 1 ( 7 minutes) – checking comprehension with a game
The T will tell them that we are going to play a game where we have to run! And she
will mime the action.
Then, she will ask ss to stand up and make two lines; she will organize and help
them to make two lines. Next, she will show ss the big and small school objects pictures
and put them on the other side of the class. She will also ask them: “What is this? Is it a
4. small or a big glue? And she will encourage ss to answer: “It is a big glue”. We will follow
the same procedure with: pencil, rubber, sharpener, glue, pencil case and school bag.
Then, the T will choose two ss to run to the pictures and pick up the card that she
mentions while she tells Gloria’s story again. She will also encourage ss to name the
objects from the story while she tells it. The T will tell to ss: “You have to run a pick up the
object that Gloria wants” and she will also help them by miming the actions and playing
with them.
Closure (3 minutes)
The T will ask ss to sit down on a circle again and we will sing and mime the rhyme
to say goodbye: Bye! It’s time to say goodbye (finger pointing to the watch), see you next
class- bye, bye, bye, bye (we will blow some kisses).
