3. Project Overview
Life, as we know it, is unpredictable and uncertain. Many people have an "invincibility"
myth that nothing bad will ever happen to them. This line of thought can be very
dangerous, if not deadly. Consequently, learning basic First Aid and Self-Defense skills
is imperative to successfully face the perilous circumstances we encounter in life.
As a response to this prevalent situation in the society we, the Rotaractors of the
University of Sri Jayewardenepura, have taken the initiative to conduct a workshop
under the name “Project 007: Survive & Help Survive” aiming to educate the
Interactors about First Aid & Self-Defense. This project is done in collaboration with
the Interact Club of Ananda College and 20 schools within the Colombo District.
Members representing the venerated humanitarian institution, Sri Lanka Red Cross
Society (SLRCS) along with a professional Martial Arts instructor will be joining hands
with us to make this project a success. This initiative aims in molding the attitudes of
young adults and nurturing their knowledge on Personal Safety.
