The National Guild of Hypnotists 2013 Annual Convention, Exhibition and Educational Conference will
be held August 9 thru 11, 2013, at the Royal Plaza Hotel & Trade Center in Marlborough, Massachusetts.

This is your invitation to participate in the World’s Largest and Friendliest Professional
Hypnotism Convention. Join the celebration of our 26th Convention Anniversary!
Over the last twenty-five years, our Annual NGH Convention has become the premier forum for
sharing the study of hypnotism in an atmosphere of camaraderie. An adjunct faculty from
around the world provides an open forum for a free exchange of ideas concerning hypnotism. It
is truly the convention for all professional hypnotists.
The Program Committee members who spent so many hours evaluating the submissions have
selected an incredibly rich constellation of presenters to make this a special occasion. An
extraordinary roster of seminars and workshops, plus an outstanding Saturday Social evening
are scheduled at our convention location, the Best Western Royal Plaza Convention and Trade
Center in Marlborough, Massachusetts.
You can choose from over 300 seminars and workshops at the largest convention of its kind,
with exciting social and networking opportunities. Many professional contacts and lifelong
friendships with people you might otherwise have never met are formed each year at this
convention. Earn valuable continuing education and member certification renewal credits!

3. The National Guild of Hypnotists has unarguably done more to build, enhance, grow, and protect the
profession of the consulting hypnotist, than has any other group, agency, or association. With great
wisdom, vision, and steadfast commitment, the Guild and its leadership have advanced, and continue
to advance, the profession of the consulting hypnotist to new levels of esteem, influence, and career
opportunity.
But each of us, as current or future members of the Guild, plays a part in growing the Guild’s legacy
for future generations of professional consulting hypnotists. As individuals, we must write the scripts
for legacy in our own lives, as well as in our careers. Gloria Burgess, author, coach, poet, and speaker,
grew up as one of five daughters of a man who worked as the janitor at the University of Mississippi.
At the University, Earnest McEwen took great pride in scrubbing the corridors and classrooms until
they gleamed, but he never passed up an opportunity to share that he, too, would like to attend
college. Nor did he ever pass up the opportunity to read as many of the great books that surrounded
him as he could. As Gloria McEwen Burgess explains in her book, Dare to Wear Your Soul on the
Outside, “One professor took notice and started a chain of events that would change my father’s life,
and that of our family, in the most amazing way.”
Through a personal gift from the great Nobel prize-winning American writer, William Faulkner, Earnest
McEwen was provided the means to attend, Alcorn A&M College, (now Alcorn State University). A
proud man, McEwen, with great humility, received Faulkner’s gift, which came with only one stipula-
tion: “pass it on.”
McEwen graduated with a degree in what was then known as Building and Construction, and is now
recognized as the field of Architecture. All five McEwen daughters attended college and have built
successful careers in medicine, computer science, social service, and education. And many times
over, Earnest McEwen compassionately passed on gifts of opportunity to others.
Legacy begins with a single brush stroke, painted on the canvas of eternity. As you
prepare to be part of the 2013 NGH Convention, challenge yourself by asking these
questions, and by dealing with their often provocative answers:
 Are my eyes—and my heart—open to the opportunities others bring into my life?
 Do I have the courage to be humble and accept the gifts of others?
 Am I taking advantage of every opportunity to generously and selflessly “pass it on” to others?
 Am I prepared to be mentored?
 And as Gloria Burgess writes, have I embraced the understanding that, “in order to be some-
body, you have to first be yourself?”
