Todayâs VISIONFC Simplifying IoT Summit was made possible, in part, by the generosity of our sponsors . . . Thinfilm and a company I am quite familiar with . . . NXP! Let me extend a special thank you from the NFC Forum to both companies.
Here is an overview of todayâs speakers. As you can see, we have a distinguished group of presenters and Iâd like to personally thank each and every one of them for taking the time to share their wisdom with us today.
We also have a great panel discussion planned for today on the topic of How Does NFC Simplify the Internet of Things? Thank you to all the panelists for the insights and expertise they will share with us today. Weâll also have 8 of the 2018 NFC Innovation Award Finalists that the panel of judges chose share about their NFC product.
How to use your NFC-enabled badge:
If you have not already, be sure to download the âNFC Forum Member Meetingsâ mobile app from the Apple AppStore or Google Play
Once installed, the app appears with the âN Markâ icon. The app provides a simple badge reading function allowing attendees to exchange their business card information
Note: When the app is launched for the first time, in prompts its user to either scan their badge or enter their email. This is a one-time registration procedure that links the user to the app and activates the mobile application
Thank you to Quibiteq, our badge sponsor
Later youâll hear about some other fun activities we have planned with our NFC-enabled badges.
We encourage you to share the insights that you gained today on social media channels. When you do be sure to use hashtag #NFCinno18
If you havenât already, be sure to stop by the registration desk to vote your favorite of the 9 finalists. The company with the most votes today will win the designation of Peopleâs Choice award.
The non-profit NFC Forum is the worldâs leading standards and advocacy association for NFC Technology. We have approximately 140 members worldwide both B2B and B2C. Many of which you know like these. We also have a good mix of startups and other innovative companies that you might not of heard of â yet.
The NFC Forum creates the technical specifications and standards that drive NFC innovation in key areas like UX. We focus our activities in the retail, public transportation, automobile and IoT markets. See me today if youâd like to know how you can get involved in our work.
The NFC Forum brings the convenience of NFC technology to life. We empower organizations to deliver secure, tap-based interactions with an intuitive, reliable experience to users around the globe. Join today!
NFC is mainstream and out-front. NFC can be found in textiles, automobiles and even soccer balls. I added that last one in honor of the World Cup.
Easy network access and data sharing â NFC makes the process of connecting devices easy and intuitive. Thereâs no lengthy handshaking or data entry requirements. Just tap and go.
User control with expressed intent â NFC offers a simple, intuitive means of indicating the userâs intent to initiate action. A quick tap makes it clear.
Data security at multiple levels â Wide-open networks allow opportunities for hackers. NFC counters with built-in features that limit opportunities for eavesdropping, and easy-to-deploy options for additional protections to match each use case.
The ability to connect the unconnected â NFC solves the problem of unpowered objects that lack network access. By embedding NFC tags in unpowered, unconnected objects, you can add intelligence anywhere. With a tap of an NFC-enabled device, it can open a URL and provide access to online information.
Simple, easy-to-use for all ages and technology abilities.
Some of the biggest IoT opportunities over the next three years will come from the automotive sector, wearables, the public transportation market an IoT products and services.
Automotive: Honda, Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac have already added NFC to their vehicle platforms.
Smart wearables: How many people here own a FitBit, Apple watch? At the recent Olympics in Korea VISA embedded an NFC chip in winter gloves to create a wearable.
IoT: Global spending on devices will top 1.5 trillion in two years. They will need connectivity on their terms, commissioning and control.
Public transportation: IHS and Juniper predict that the mobile ticketing market will grow at (CAGR) by almost 20 per cent over the next three years. The growth drivers will be: Rapid increase in NFC mobile ticketing applications (apps): Customer demand for more convenient mobile ticketing options and Rise of NFC-enabled smartphones and wearables capable of handling mobile ticketing services.
A list of card projects is available at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_smart_cards.
Join the NFC Forum to impact the future of retail, payment and brand.
Thank VISIONFC speakers again-
IMPORTANT: Remind people to stop by the reception desk to cast their vote for âPeopleâs Choiceâ if they have not already. Voting shuts down at 18:40.
Let people know there will be short break taking place (hang out here, use the loo, then gather in the reception area) and at 18:30 we invite you all to the conservatory Terrace.
A few notes about the NFC Innovation Award Celebration. Weâre very excited to announce the winners. We also look forward to meeting many of you. Letâs use this an opportunity to make some noise about the wonders of NFC. In addition to the winner announcement we have some fun activities happing at the Award Celebration.:
Look for the photo backdrop and stop by and snap a photo or two to share on Twitter using hashtag #NFCandMe. Sponsored by our Platinum sponsor, Thinfilm, the winner of this contest will win a NFC-enabled Noise Cancellation headset. Instructions are on this screen. Donât forget to use hashtag #NFCandMe.
Hopefully you have all been using your NFC-enabled badges by Qubiteq to network all day today. But tonight we are going to tally up all the times that people have tapped to exchange contact details. At the end of the evening weâll be announcing the person who gathered the most contacts and that lucky person will win an NFC-enabled speaker.
As part of your admission you receive 2 complimentary âvirtualâ drink tickets. To activate these drink tickets, simply have the bartender scan your NFC-enabled badge at the bar and raise a glass to toast the winners.
