HousingandBuildingConstructionon24July,2015atIndiaHabitatCentre,NewDelhi.
BACKDROP
The role of appropriate construction technologies and building materials in construction is crucial taking
into account the projected increase in urban population from 31.16 percent (377 million) in 2011 to
40.70 percent (590 million) in the year 2030. The addition of 213 million people in urban India within a
span of 20 years calls for massive construction. Research reveals potential need to build 4 billion sq.ft. of
residential space per annum and an additional 4.7 billion sq ft of commercial, institutional, industrialand
retailspace.
The timing of the Conference has a special significance because the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India has
launched the mission ‘Housing for All (Urban)’ on 25 June 2015 aimed at construction of an estimated 2
crore dwelling units in urban areas. A technology sub-mission has been announced for facilitating
adoption of modern, innovative and greener technologies and building materials for faster and quality
construction.
It is therefore necessary to adopt & promote modern know how and technologies covering the entire
rangeofendusersforaffordablehousing, multi-storeyresidentialblocks,officecomplexes,commercial
andretailspace.
OBJECTIVE
The Conference objective is to present the various modern technologies and techniques for the benefit
of companies engaged in real estate development and construction which are cost effective, are
environment friendly, have safety features, lead to faster construction, require lesser labour &
economise consumption of water. Briefly stated, the deliberations shall provide an opportunity for
optimal and efficient use of resources & materials. The Conference offers a major opportunity for the
publicandprivatesectortodevelopplannedandefficienturbanhabitats.
