Short film proposal - Two Idiots and A Lady
A short silent film using the classic slapstick humour. Putting a twist on the non-
dialogue films like Charlie Chaplin and laurel and Hardy. This film will tell a story of
two clumsy idiots fighting over the damsel in distress. Only one can be the hero and
win her heart. Through-out we will see the lady with both idiots and how each of
them treats her. The lady will have to choose between money and gifts or the laughs
and love. The locations will be kept simple so the film doesn’t look to modern and
people focus on the actors. The costumes are going to have a twist of the olden
days in them so it keeps in theme with the film. There will be slapstick, funny, piano
music running with the short film to create a more professional replica old style film.
The film will be set all in the same day and be easy for the audience to understand.
The structure of the film will be in chronological order showing a day in the life of
these three characters. I am going to take the old style titles that show dialogue in
the old silent films and try and recreate them to use some in my short film. I think this
will help make my short film more authentic.The target audience is families and the
older generation because it’s a recreation of the old slapstick style. I think families
with a range of different ages in them will enjoy this together because of the
comedy and silliness. I want to create well timed falling over and trips to make the
audience laugh out loud. This comedy film I am creating will rely heavily on actions
and expression because it’s silent, so everything will be exaggerated and over the
top. I will meet the needs of the audience by keeping them entertained and editing
my film well so the cuts are quick but not to noticeable and not to long that they
bore the audience. The film will be in black and white just like its been filmed in the
slapstick era and I also want to add aging effects to help create that look, however
it will be filmed with modern day equipment. A black and white love story starring to
rivalling idiots desperate for the damsel’s heart. Each of the boys will fight to the very
end so they can prove they’re worth it.
