As you can see from the table Action Movies are a
very popular genre of movies behind Science- Fiction.
However, they usually have conventions of violence
and weapons which may be inappropriate for
audiences so they are unable to appeal to the mass
market. This is shown through the PG rating for
mainly every action movie.

4. How has the genre reflected society?
Action Movies have had a large lasting impact on society as there have been
many influential figures in action movies which have had a positive impact on
a modern audience. Women, for example more recently have been portrayed
as a more brave and self sufficient role, which has had an impact on modern
culture where we are not living in so much of a patriarchal society. Examples
of this is Lara Croft as she is a brave and determined woman who does not
need any help from anyone apart from herself.

ï” These types of films have tremendous impact, continuous energy, lots of
physical stunts and activity, possibly extended chase scenes, battles,
fighting, destructive disasters, explosions, spectacular rhythm and pacing,
and adventurous heroes - all designed for escapism for the audience with
the action sequences at the core of the film.

ï” The genre began through many silent films around the early 1900âs when
films such as Edwin S. Porterâs âThe Great Train Robberyâ (1903). Since it has
remained popular throughout cinematic history. It then increased largely
during the 1980âs and 1990âs with films such as âTop Gunâ (1986) and âDie
Hardâ (1988) both grossing over $300 million.
