There are many reasons why someone decides to embark in a doctorial journey.
I started this journey with aspirations to improve as a professional. To my surprise,
this program has had a positive impact not only in my professional life but also on a
personal level. I don’t know what the future will bring, but I know that my way of
seeing/perceiving things has been changed for the better.
6. Dr. Kelly: Don’t worry about where you are, it’s where you are going that
matters. “Excellence is a choice.” Bridges and tunnels and
school reform: It’s the system stupid (p. 13 )
Dr. Inserra: If you are using a survey, FIND ONE. For your dissertation, do not
let it get away from you, do a little everyday.
Dr. Perry: Consider the mediator variables
Dr. Tatum: Words have meaning. Go as back as you need to, do the research,
find it- NO as cited in, get original source
Dr. Morote: What would your epitaph read? “You are too philosophical.”
Dr. Walter: Teacher’s contract: If it is already a law, it does not need to be in
it; be careful with preambles. Do you live what you believe in?
7. Future Plans
I aspire to hold a leadership position in which I could use my
experience as a technological educator and all of the
leaderships skills that I’ve learned through this program to
move any educational program from good to great
I would like to:
• devote time, energy, and passion to help improve the
quality of teachers’ education using educational technology
• Make the world a better place through teachers ‘education

36. The Purpose of Education
What should be the aim of schooling in the United States?
To awaken within a child a passion for learning in order to develop
lifelong learners
To help students see learning as life itself, and not just as a vehicle to a
better future. The ride, as well as the destination, are equally important
as both compose an individual’s life
To teach children about finding the balance of success, as determined by
money and power, and success as determined by a person’s happiness and
wellbeing by making a difference in ones own life as well as in others; to
see success beyond a monetary value
To help students realize a teacher is a facilitator and they should be in
charge of own learning and not to be afraid of taking initiatives

37. Skills, Strategies and Tactics of a
Good Negotiator
This literature review identifies skills, strategies and tactics that good
negotiators employ to achieve desire objectives:
Having strong alternatives (gives negotiator more power)
Being aware of the opponent’s goals, (Tangible-financial outcome vs.
Intangible- feelings of winning/beating the other party)
Planning strategies
Observing for verbal and non-verbal cues
Networking
Articulation of goals
Knowledge of the process
Awareness of the negotiation stages
Stages:
• Early Stage, the initiation in which each side states its positions
• Second Stage, problem solving, in which parties are less competitive but each side is
protective of its original position
• Final Stage, resolution, in which both parties work to achieve a joint solution trying to agree
in order for settlement to take place

Transformational Leadership is stimulating followers to
perform beyond the levels of expectations
This literature review summarizes and analyzes the
foundations of transformational leadership and
how it is applied in school leadership.
It was concluded transformational leadership displays
multiple intelligence qualities and that transformational
leaders need to know when to make use of their
managerial skills versus their leadership qualities.

43. Naïve Realism
• Also known as direct realism or common sense
realism, is a common sense theory of perception
• “Naïve realism claims that the world is pretty
much as common sense would have it. All objects
are composed of matter, they occupy space, and
have properties such as size, shape, texture,
smell, taste and color” (Art & Culture,2011)
• Very often it is our previous experiences that
shape the way we see, perceive things. Therefore,
there are multiple ways to see things

45. For example, an experiment might be defined
by two parameters, such as treatment and time
point. One-way ANOVA tests would be able to
assess only the treatment effect or the time
effect. Two-way ANOVA on the other hand
would not only be able to assess both time and
treatment in the same test, but also whether
there is an interaction between the parameters.
A two-way test generates three p-values, one
for each parameter independently, and one
measuring the interaction between the two
parameters.

46. Superficial Learning
“Although a good deal of money is spent on
staff development in the United States, most
is spent on sessions and workshops that are
intellectually superficial, disconnected from
deep issues of curriculum and learning,
fragmented and noncumulative”
Ball & Cohen, 1999

47. Chaos Theory
• “Chaos theory is an attempt to explain and
model the seemingly random components of
a system. It recognizes that systems are
sensitive to initial conditions, so that
seemingly small changes can produce large
changes in the system(Walonick, 1993).”

55. Multiple Regression
• The multiple linear regression
model is an extension of a simple
linear regression model to
incorporate two or more
explanatory variable in a prediction
equation for a response variable.
It helps to estimate very
complicated models with large
numbers of variables.
• Which variables are significantly
contributing to the dependent
variable?
9804
56. APA Style
Is there any mean differences between the pre and post
technological test after on semester of training in
instructional technology?
A paired-sample t-test was conducted to evaluate whether
one semester of training if instructional technology
changed the frequency of technology used in the
classroom. The results indicated that the mean of the post
–test (M= 3.63, SD=1.01) was significantly greater than the
mean of the pre test (M=1.15, SD = 0.36), t(26)=13.22,
p<0.01. The standardized effect size index, d, was 2.54
which was a large effect size.
9803
57. Beneficence
An action that is done for the benefit of
others. Beneficent actions can be taken to
help prevent or remove harms or to simply
improve the situation of others.
Beneficence can also include
protecting and defending the
rights of others, rescuing people
who are in danger & helping
individuals with disabilities
9816
58. Consequentialist
• A theory of value that judges the rightness or wrongness of an action
based on the consequences of the action. For example, utilitarianism
``that action is best that produces the greatest good for the greatest
number'' (Jeremy Bentham)
Example: Teleological
• A non-consequentialist theory of value judges the
rightness or wrongness of an action based on properties
intrinsic to the action, not on its consequences.
Example: Deontological
9816
59. Virtues
• Prudence: foundational virtue permeating all
decision making
• Justice: distributive, legal, and commutative
• Fortitude: helping administrators overcome
obstacles and look beyond fears
• Temperance: balance between responsibility
and pleasure

• How people are framed to see things
• The power of a label
• For example:
Illegal aliens vs. undocumented workers
64. Bounded Awareness
• Individual’s failure to “see” and use accessible

using other equally accessible and perceivable
information.
• Being “blind” by emotions, self-centered, anger
• Overlook critical easily accessible information
• Inattentional Blindness: The basketball video
