4. PHOTOSYNTHETIC AND NON-PHOTOSYNTHETIC PLANTS
PHOTOSYNTHESIS
Photosynthesis is the process used by plants, alge and certain bacteria to harness
energy from the sun and turn it into chemical energy.
Equation
6H2O + 6CO2 C6H12O6 + 6O2
Example
All plants are photosynthetic and they are autotrophs.

Light
5. Example of Photosynthesis:
Autotrophs generate their own food trough photosynthesis. Almost all
plants are photosynthetic autotrophs as are some bacteria and protests.
Mubaika Seher 5
6. NON-PHOTOSYNTHESIS
Non-Photosynthesis is the process in which organisms /plants obtaining
their food through their hosts because absence of photosynthetic pigment
chlorophyll.
Example
Heterotrophs
Parasites
Mubaika Seher 6
7. PHOTOSYNTHETIC PLANTS
Plants get their food through photosynthesis , during photosynthesis
a plant traps energy from sun light with its leaves ,it also take up water
with its roots and carbon dioxide from the air.
Carbon:
Dioxide + water Gulocoe + Oxygen + water
6H2O + 6CO2 C6H12O6 + 6O2
CHLOROPLAST ( Sites Of the Photosynthesis )
All green parts of the plants have chlorophyll
which carry out photosynthesis.
The leaves have the most chloroplasts.
The green color come from the chlorophyll in
chloroplast.

10. THE KINGDOM WHICH CONTAIN
PHOTOSYNTHETIC ORGANISM
MONERA
Eubacteria
Archeobacteria
PROTISTA
Euglenophyta
Algae
PLANTEA
Over 250,000 species of plants
Mubaika Seher 10
11. MONERA
“Monera are bacteria while several of them absorb their food
,many other have the capability to produce their own food
through photosynthesis.”
Due to their single cell nature ,some bacteria photosynthesize
in primitive manner.
Mubaika Seher 11
12. PROTISTA
Almost all protists that take part in photosynthesis have some
type of chlorophyll.
Some protest ,such as euglenophyta will engage in
photosynthesis when there is a light source ,but will eat other
organism when there is ni loght.
EXAMPLES
Ameoba, Diatom, Euglena.

13. KINGDOM PLANTEA CLASSIFICATION
The presence of vascular tissue.
The absence of vascular tissue.
The presence of seeds .
The absence of seeds.
Mubaika Seher 13
14. PHYLUM BRYOPHYTA
They are non-vascular land plants, which do not contain conducting tissues.
The reproduction process carry in spores.
The play vital role in preventing soil erosion.
EXAMPLES
Mosses, Hornworts, Liverworts
Mubaika Seher 14
15. PHYLUM PTERIDOPHYTA
They are seedless vascular plants, which contain vascular tissues but do
not produce seeds.
The reproduction is carried by spores.
EXAMPLES
Ferns
Club mosses
Mubaika Seher 15
16. PHYLUM ANGEOSPERMS
They are flowering plants which develope a seed with protective structure.
They develop their seeds within the ovary.
EXAMPLES
Trees
Shrubs
Vines
Flowers
Mubaika Seher 16
17. PHYLUM GYMNOSPERMS
Gymnosperms are non-flowering plants with undeveloped
seeds which are present in enclosed structure.
EXAMPLES
Palms
Carpet lawns
Mubaika Seher 17
18. NON-PHOTOSYNTHETIC PLANTS
Some plants are non-photosynthetic and parasitic obtaining
their food through their hosts because absence a pigment
which is called chlorophyll.
All parasitic plants have special organs called haustoria(root
like structure)that grow in the host plant’’s tissues and
extract water and nutrients.
Mubaika Seher 18
19. FUNGI
The fungi are hetrotrophics and digest their food externally ,
absorbing nutrient molecules into their cells.
Fungi are eukaryotic heterotrophs that have cell wall made up
of chitin.
Fungi can not make their own food ,absorb nutrients directly
from soil.

20. INDIAN PIPES(ghost plant)
Its hosts are mycorrhizal fungi which themselves mutualist that drive their
energy from a host tree.
So the Indian pipe ultimately feeding off of a host tree.
Indian pipe has no chlorophyll and no pigment.
Mubaika Seher 20
21. DODDER
The dodder contain no chlorophyll and instead absorb food through
haustoria these are rootlike organs that penetrate the tissue of host
plant and may kill it.
