Since I graduated from Birmingham City
University, I have been in full time
employment working in the University
Hospitals of Leicester based at Leicester
General Hospital. I have gained a high level of
experience working in the Cross-Sectional
modalities CT and MRI at this Trust. I am
capable of producing a high quality of work
which from when i started has led to me being
promoted to become a senior radiographer. I
have worked independently, carrying out
urgent on call scans, managing day to day
work lists to ensure smooth running of the
department.
One of my responsibilities as a senior is to be
the Radiation Protection Supervisor for CT. My
job is to enforce the local rules within the
department and dealing with any radiation
incidents. Following the ALARA principles,
IR(ME)R and departmental protocols has
helped me to insure safe working practice. I
also contribute to the team by setting the on
call rota which involves skills of advance
planning and being well organised.
I enjoy working with students as i see potential
in all of them, it brings me satisfaction to
impart my knowledge upon them and see

5. their potential grow as they work towards
becoming fully qualified healthcare
professionals. I have also played a role in the
training of new staff members, working closely
with them, sharing knowledge and helping
them get settled into the department.
I am fully competent in carrying out CT Scans
and altering scan parameters as required for
the different types of scans whether it be
vascular, orthopaedics, neurology etc.
Through my professional practise i have
exercised my ability in effective
communication by liasing with the wards to
book patients for scans and discussing any
protocol issues with the radiologists to ensure
service users are receiving the most
appropriate service. I have an awareness of
the need for good team work and how
maintaining a positive working attitude is the
key to delivering a high quality of health care.
I am trained in MRI and have attended the
Cobalt in MRI in Practice course in
Cheltenham. The course enhanced my
knowledge of MRI and gave me the ability to
optimise image acquisition which has made
me more effective in providing a high quality
imaging service. Issues concerning MRI safety
have led to me becoming more cautious and
watchful as i understand the risks involved. It
has made me better at assessing patients prior
to undertaking scans and this is an important
skill for insuring safety.
6. I have undertaken an in house cannulation
course and have been put in the UHL Trusts
PGD which allows me to cannulate patients
and inject IV Contrast medium as per protocol.
In June 2016 i attended the CT Colonogram
Course in Leeds. This displays my willingness
to learn new skills to expand my job role and
my motivation to keep my knowledge up to
date.
I am certain that the skills i possess would be a
positive contribution to healthcare
organisations and that i can be a valuable
member of the radiology team. I continue to
develop my skills and cease the opportunities
offered to me as i have the ambition to
progress in this profession.
