High School Students Honor Veterans
Rancho Cucamonga High School to host over 300 Veterans as Living History
Rancho Cucamonga, CA (May 2013) – On Thursday May 1, 2013 at 9 am, Rancho Cucamonga
High School is inviting nearly 300 veterans to campus in order to honor them for their war-time
service. As part of the sixth annual “Rancho Remembers” celebration, veterans from WWII,
Korea, Vietnam and the Gulf War will be recognized as they come to share their combat and
military experiences with students.
“The annual Rancho Cucamonga High School Remembers oral history program provides
veterans with a unique opportunity to continue the enduring legacy of their military experience
through the lives of the students involved in the process.” says Mal Middlesworth, Pearl Harbor
Survivor.
Veterans will travel from all over southern California and Arizona to share their stories with
students in small groups of three-four, allowing a personal experience for all involved. The event
offers students a unique way to commemorate Memorial Day by saying “thank you” directly to
the men and women who have served their country faithfully in times of conflict.
Among the distinguished guest will be upwards of 80 WWII veterans, including an African
American solider who served in a segregated unit and survived the devastation of Midway.
Additionally RCHS will host a Vietnam Veteran who spent nearly five years in the “Hanoi
Hilton” only to return to the US to find that his wife and the mother or his four children had
remarried and a South Vietnamese soldier who fought along-side US forces.
