2. CONSIDER:
What does learning in your
school look like?
How do you encourage links
between learning at school and
at home?
3. “One of our outcomes for our students should be that they
can create, navigate and map networks in safe effective and
ethical ways”
Will Richardson
4. Students need networking to be talked about and
modeled throughout their schooling.
They need to be taught how to have a
presence online in a positive way.
5.
6. The traditional
classroom model is
very linear. We need to
move to a place that
better reflects how
people seek/learn/
create in the modern
world.

When our students read,
they usually do so as
editors/contributors, not
just consumers.
Publishing is no longer the
end result - there is
feedback and networking
after that stage that is so

10. ICT is no longer a subject
It is the prism through
which our students will
navigate their entire lives
12. our responsibility:
to prepare students in the best way possible to
succeed in the world as we know it

17. What we found:
+ -
Ongoing challenge to bring all staff on board
Student reception: engagement
Ability to house a variety of content from Some parents resistance to change &
various Web 2.0 programs within a learning generally getting parents onboard
context
Improved understanding of social networking Heightened reliance on a stable server!
platforms, wikis, blogs, cybersafety
Development of interactive activities, forums, Keeping track of all that is posted on the wiki
surveys. Online lessons created by teachers can get challenging for teachers when things
and students. really take off.
Opens up a myriad of collaboration
Managing permissions
possibilities
Communicating with parents about what the
Development of student ePortfolios technology does, encouraging them to give
permissions for photos etc to go online
20. What we found:
The positives continue...
Student blogs, online reflective learning journals.
Learning is shared and all students benefit.
The opportunity for parents to be a part of and
contribute to their child’s learning. Home to school
communication dramatically increases.
Differentiation for every student, parent and
teacher
Ease of gathering and sharing information across
the community. All notices, newsletters and
homework is provided online for students and
parents to access - no more paper!
Students have an audience for their work. They can
view and leave comments on other students work.
Positive interaction. Work is no longer just for the
teacher
A good digital network better represents how our
students will learn in ‘real’ life, and therefore
prepares them better.
21. how?
how did we get there?
The first step is for teachers is to look at themselves as
learners.
How do we become the type of learners our kids need to
become?
Invest time into working it out and showing it in your
own practice as a model for the kids.
