In this presentation, Vikas introduces IoT and describes various innovative applications of IoT currently by tech giants. Vikas's idea is to have a centralized board that can control everything instead of making individual devices smart.

2. Introduction
• As the name suggests, connection of things (any object) to the
internet. It is a concept of world wide network of
interconnected smart objects uniquely addressable, that are
talking to each other online.
• These devices will be using IPv6 for addressing (with or
without Ipv4) IPv4 will shortly run out of addresses and not be
able to handle the large number of devices that are going to
connect using the concept of IoT.
• With this concept, new innovative applications will emerge
exploiting the connectivity and accessibility of everything.
There will be better and more energy efficient things.
3. Introduction
• When large number of device get connected to the Internet,
large amount of data will get transferred from one point to
other and challenges will be there to handle Big data.
• The IoT will be according to me a collection of heterogeneous
devices while the current Internet is rather a collection of
uniform devices, because a large number of devices are going
to connect having different functionalities and applications.
• Indeed the IoT is the future version of our Internet but there
are some points to think over with the privacy and security.
4. Trends
IoT has the capability to change every single corner of a person’s,
society’s, firm’s, country’s life.
• A field of immediate customer impact is “Connected Homes”
and by connecting these homes “Smart Grids” using M2M
(Machine to Machine) technology, power consumption can be
reduced to a large extent.
• Phillips light bulb can be controlled from a smartphone.
• Apple’s new iBeacon technology, allows any new iPhone to
detect its position in space to the nearest centimeter.
• Google’s success with balloon, airplane internet.
5. Trends
• Internet of Caring things, to actively care for consumers – their
physical and mental well being, loved ones and more.
• “The Cricket”, a smart bike alarm that automatically sends
notifications if the bike is moved or gets stolen.
• “The Goji Smart lock” detects that a visitor is at the door and sends
the picture of the visitor to the user. Goji can be unlocked remotely or
users can send electronic keys via their cellphones.
By 2020 IoT will change the lives of people in a positive manner. From
waking up to going to bed, a lot of things will be changed. May be the
scenario be like this:- We will stop the alarm and give the instruction to
the geyser to heat up the water or give the speaker an instruction to
play a beautiful song. Our motorbike or car will send us a notification
to replace the tires. Our LPG gas cylinder is saying us to refill it.
Many scenes can be possible.
The IoT will make development in many other
fields also like, Police, Accidents, Power Consumptions, Traffic,
Pollution etc.
6. Interest Areas
The IoT has very vast areas but these are the areas that interest me:
• Smart Homes, where things at home can be connected to the user.
• Smart Automobiles, connected to the owner.
In case of smart homes, I will try to think of a single smart object that
eliminates the need of many smart objects, like in case of Phillips light
bulb ( discussed on the trends slide ) if we can think of a device which
can handle the main board switches and all the electrical devices can be
switched Off or On individually. Because making a light bulb or T.V or
Washing Machine individually that connects to the user will consumer
more hardware and money both if we are just doing that for the
intention of saving energy.
If given an internship, I will definitely give
my best to provide you innovative ideas, development of applications,
minimizing security and privacy issues
