This document discusses Internet of Things (IoT) and proposes a solution for reducing metropolitan vehicle traffic using IoT. The author explains that IoT connects both computerized and non-computerized things to share information over a network. Applications of IoT are multi-dimensional, ranging from home automation to smart cities. The author is interested in using IoT for traffic monitoring by implementing a prototype system that monitors traffic using vehicle communication and guides vehicles to reduce congestion. The author believes that working in IoT fields like traffic monitoring will be profitable.

2. IOT - INTERNET OF THINGS
• In the present days, every object that can be computerized is
generally connected to form a network.
• A novel idea- To connect even those things that are not
computerized in nature, by the inclusion of electronic and
software in such things to communicate with each other and
increase their value and service to the humans
• This novel idea is INTERNET OF THINGS
• Like a human body –with every thing in the network pooling
their information to the central Brain-cloud to be used by Us.
3. WHAT'S THE USE , HUH??
• Well there is no limitation to the use of
internet of things apart from our imagination.
• From building a home automation to a
gigantic smart city, from fitness to fun and
from business to entertainment – the
applications are multi- dimensional
• Some of them- location, smartwatches, smart
lights, temperature regulators, smart
surveillance and……….Sorry no end!!!!!
4. TRENDS
• Corventis’ heart monitor, reports heart activity- approved by FDA in
2010. The data can save the patient from cardiac episode or
arrhythmia.
• dontflush.Me –plans to adopt sensors to avoid overflows in
New York sewers .
• A Dutch company called sparked created a sensor implant that can
measure a cow's vital signs
5. FUTURE
• Home automation will be greatly affected by IOT. Every piece
of material in a house will smart
• Apart from these we have Industrial monitoring, Smart City
Building, Security, Digital life and many others areas that will
transform the face of earth
6. INTRESTED AREA
• In the future vehicle congestion will be a huge problem. Many countries would be interested in
traffic monitoring through IOT.
• Future of traffic monitoring is bright and investing in such electronics and software will be
profitable
• This is the reason I would like to work on this project.
• On securing a internship, I would implement a prototype of such system in which the software
installed n the system would monitor the traffic in the city using communication with other
vehicles and traffic department to guide the vehicle out of the traffic.
• As a initial step Arduino GSM Shield is used to connect to internet and communication. Also
vehicle GPS is used to guide the vehicle.
7. CONCLUSION
• Even tough SMAC and Automation are equally interesting topics, IOT has
inspired me because of its broader areas of implementation(personal interest
also).
• As per my knowledge any company investing and working in these field would
greatly profit in the future.
• And I must thank MphasiS team for this opportunity and showing me the
platform for my ideas.
