INTRODUCTION
 As for a simple overview, the Internet of Things(IoT) is a scenario in
which objects, animals or people are provided with unique identifiers
and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-
to-human or human-to-computer interaction. IoT has evolved from the
convergence of wireless technologies, micro-electromechanical
systems (MEMS) and the Internet.
 The Internet of Things has been most closely associated with machine-
to-machine (M2M) communication in manufacturing and power, oil and
gas utilities. Products built with M2M communication capabilities are
often referred to as being smart.
 IPv6’s huge increase in address space is an important factor in the
development of the Internet of Things. The address space expansion
means that we could “assign an IPV6 address to every atom on the
surface of the earth, and still have enough addresses left to do another
100+ earths”.

TRENDS IN INFRASTRUCTURE:
THE INTERNET OF THINGS
‘Streams of data emerging in real-time from sensors will
be a boon to networking, storage, analytics, and
visualization companies’.
The Internet of Things-also known as the Industrial Internet or the Internet of Everything
has become a reality in 2014 principally due to the rapidly falling cost of manufacturing
power-efficient wireless chipsets capable of sending and receiving WiFi and Bluetooth low-
energy signals.
The cost of adding connectivity to a device has now fallen to less than US$5.00, and
these processors can work for more than a year on batteries. This will make them
ubiquitous in machines, devices, transportation, and even individuals.
Smartphones will become wireless hubs for these low-energy devices, enabling
consumers and infrastructure to become hyper-connected to each other, to their
environment, and potentially to any other resource on the Internet.
The first applications of the Internet of Things will be in business processes such as the
remote maintenance of industrial machinery, supply-chain optimization and security, and
infrastructure management.
Apple’s recently released iBeacon technology (which uses Bluetooth low energy) allows
any new iPhone to detect its position in space to the nearest centimeter, meaning that
shopkeepers can track where and how consumers purchase products and send them
suggestions, recommendations and discounts.
The Internet of Things, or IoT, is emerging as the next technology mega-trend, with
repercussions across the business spectrum. By connecting to the Internet billions of
everyday devices – ranging from fitness bracelets to industrial equipment – the IoT
merges the physical and online worlds, opening up a host of new opportunities and
challenges for companies, governments and consumers.
Trends in Infrastructure:
The Internet of Things(continued)
Consumers more Likely to See
Value in Health & Fitness Wearable
Technology
Among wearable technology devices, wearable fitness applications and technology stand to see the most
growth in the short term, with 13 percent of consumers planning to purchase within the next year and a
total of 33 percent looking to adopt in the next five years.
Smart watches are the second
most popular wearable
device, with 5 percent
planning to purchase in the
next year and a total of 23
percent planning to adopt in
the next five years.
AREAS OF INTEREST
 On a precise note, I would like to work on
networking related to Ipv6 and designing network
architecture for IPv6 and IPv6 Dual Stack for
Broadband Edge.
 The Dual Stack feature will allow me to implement
IPv6 alongside IPv4 in the existing subscriber
networks.
 This feature will allow to implement IPv6 so that we
can provide the same subscriber services over
IPv6—video, voice, high-quality data—that we
currently provide in your IPv4 networks.
A key takeaway is that success in the future of IoT will
stem from providing an exceptional, easy-to-use
customer experience with compelling benefits, no matter
the industry or type of product. This can be achieved
with a solid strategy, powerful technology, efficient
change management and a cutting-edge digital
presence.
