7. Why do We Get Baptized?
∗All of us are born with Original Sin.
∗Baptism cleanses us of Original
Sin and begins our Christian life.
∗WE BECOME A CHILD OF GOD

It is upon Baptism that we build our lives as followers of
Christ!
We are cleansed of original sin which we inherited from
Adam and Eve
We become children of God. We are marked
forever as belonging to Jesus.
We are welcomed in to the Catholic Church
We are joined to Christ and rise to new life in Him
We become members of the Church, the Body of Christ,
the People of God
We are united with all others who have been Baptized!

Rites are ceremonies in Liturgical
Worship. The words and actions of
each sacrament are the rite of that
sacrament

SIGN OF THE CROSS:
The priest welcomes the candidates, calls
them by name and claims them for Christ by
making the sign of the Cross on their forehead.

∗ The water is consecrated by a prayer
∗ The Baptismal promises are made
∗ Triple pouring on the head using the words:
∗ “ I baptize you in the name of the Father,
and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
16. White Garment
∗The white garment is the symbol for
our new life in Christ. It symbolizes
that we are no longer stained with
original sin
∗We are clothed in Jesus Christ!
17. Candle
∗It is lit from the Easter Candle.
Symbolizes that Christ is the light of
the world and that the newly baptized
has received the light of Christ.
18. Who can be Baptized?
∗In the Catholic Church today, baptism
is most commonly administered to
infants.
19. Who can be Baptized?
∗ Adults and older children can be baptized after
they go through a period of learning which
include prayer and liturgy, religious instruction
and service to others. This is known as
CATCHUMENATE

the CELEBRANT.
