What can we expect from the CAT exam this year? What
are the probabilities?
The quality of the CAT exam has been going up year on year. The

How does an MBA degree bridges the gap between
where you are and where you want to be in future?
A management course is the culmination of all-round learning. A
true manager (who ultimately will be a leader) should have a
blend of hard subject knowledge, strong application skills and the
ability to draw from a variety of concepts and theories. It is this
cross-functional approach that makes a leader stand out. So a
MBA creates value to the student in terms of subject knowledge,
project work, ability to relate theory to practice, cross-functional
dimensions, and most important, to understand and see strategic
imperatives
With increasing demand for MBA education in India,
management colleges are mushrooming like anything.
So, on what factors must a student base his/her choice
of an MBA college?
Students must base their choice on key factors in the Institute
including proven record, academic orientation and ethical
dimensions. Iamdwellingonthesebelow.

managementdestination?
In choosing an institute, a student should look at four essential
criteria-
Ÿ the promoter group to which the Institute belongs, the real
missionandvisionoftheInstituteanditsavowedobjectives
Ÿ the infrastructure and facilities offered to students in terms of
living atmosphere, library, computing facilities and ambience
ofthecampus
Ÿ the academic rigour followed in the Institute – quality of
curriculum, pedagogy, quality of faculty, involvement of
students in research, culminating in good placements in
terms of the quality of profiles, average salary and the
reputationoftheemployerorganizationsvisitingthecampus.
Ÿ other indirect factors like tie-up arrangements with foreign
universities, conferences and events held in the institute,
general research atmosphere and number of guest and
corporatelecturesincampus.
SDMIMD fits the bill in all of the above. It belongs to the 600-
year old, highly philanthropic Dharmasthala Trust, has one of the
best campuses for management education in the country, has
highacademicrigorandstateoftheartacademicrecord,asborne
out by the ACBSP, USA accreditation and the consistently high
rating given by external agencies (including A** by CRISIL and
Brickwork Ratings). The placement performance has been
consistently good over the years. In terms of special lectures from
corporate leaders and dignitaries, the average is around 75 per
year. The research output per faculty is among the highest in the
country.
What kind of initiatives has SDMIMD taken to ensure
that students are in sync with the practical
requirementsof the industry? '
The current challenge in industry is to have good leaders who are
well grounded in values and ethics. First the grooming to be a
leader – this is carried out by having a curricula and orientation
which gets revised year after year. Being site-license holders of
Harvard, most courses have a number of cases discussed in class,
which brings the student to the reality of practical decision-
making. Students are,in addition, put through a socially-relevant
project which seeks to sensitise them into the imperative of social
responsibility. Students are involved in a number of corporate
projects as a part of courses, and in joint work with faculty on
applied projects. Besides there are scheduled corporate visits for
fits-hand interaction. Also, teams of SDMIMD students work in
partnership with visiting foreign students in special projects.
They get the opportunity to interact and interview corporate
leadersduringtheseevents.
