• plastic waste is increasing due to
increase in population, urbanization and
development
• Plastics can be divided in to two major
categories: thermosetting and thermoplastics.
• The disposal of waste plastic has
become a serious problem globally due to their
non-biodegradability.
• The roads constructed using waste plastic,
popularly known as Plastic Roads, these are found
to perform better compared to those constructed
with conventional bitumen.
• AGGREGATE:-
Aggregate of 20mm, 10 mm.
Stone Dust and Lime as Filler
• WASTE PLASTIC:-
Waste plastic in the shredded form.(PVC is not
Used).
BITUMEN:-
• Bitumen is used as binders in pavements
constructions.
• 60/70,80/100grade bitumen is used.
1. DRY PROCESS
2. WET PROCESS
• Plastics waste like bags, bottles etc are cut into
a size between 2.36 mm and 4.75mm using
shredding machine.
• The aggregate mix is heated to 1700C.
• Similarly the bitumen is to be heated up to a
maximum of 1600C.
• At the mixing chamber, the shredded plastics
waste is added over the hot aggregate.
• The plastics waste coated aggregate is mixed
with hot bitumen.
• And the road is laid.
• Better resistance towards rain water and
water stagnation.
• No stripping and no potholes.
• Increase binding and better bonding of the
mix.
• Reduce the need of bitumen by around 10%.
• Toxics present in the plastic waste would
start liberating chemicals.
• It is believe that the in first rain As the
plastics will merely form a sticky layer
(mechanical abrasion).
• During the road laying process In the
presence of chlorine it will definitely release
noxious HCL gas which is harmful for
environment.
• use of the innovative technology not only
strengthened the road construction but also
increased the road life .
• Help to improve the environment .
• plastic road would be a boon for India’s hot
and extremely humid climate where durable
and eco-friendly roads which will relive the
earth from all type of plastic waste.
