Hyperpituitarism is the overproduction of pituitary hormones, usually caused by a pituitary adenoma. The three hormones most commonly overproduced are prolactin, adrenocorticotropic hormone, and growth hormone. This can lead to disorders like Cushing's disease, prolactinoma, acromegaly, and gigantism. Hyperpituitarism is diagnosed through physical exams, labs, and imaging tests and treated through medications, surgery, or radiation to shrink tumors and reduce hormone levels.
