This document discusses student assessment. It defines student assessment as processes for gathering information to measure individual student performance. There are two main types of assessment: formative assessment, which provides feedback to students, and summative assessment, which makes overall judgments about competence. The purposes of assessment include fostering learning, monitoring progress, motivating students, and ensuring licensing and patient safety. A good test or assessment should be valid, reliably measuring what it intends to, and also feasible, acceptable to stakeholders, educationally impactful, and culturally sensitive.
