2. REQUIREMENTS
Education : Minimum Educational Qualifications: Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science.
Legal requirements : Code 08 driving license, Assessor, Safety for Supervisors
Experience : Carbide / Chemical Plant Operations experience (5 years)
Diploma in Chemistry would be an advantage
Physical and environmental requirements and conditions: As per Man/Job spec.
3. COMPETENCIES
Technical:
- General Safety / Induction
- Fire fighting
- First aid
- ISO 9001 and ISO 14001
- Safe Work Permit Training
- Apply IT Initiator & Authorisor Training
- Plant Specific Safety
- Use of GFG Gas Tester
- ALL Area Process Training and equipment
modules
- ALL Standard operating procedures.
- Language: English, Zulu (written and spoken)
- Computer literacy – Windows, Word and Excel
Attitudinal:
- Tolerance to the pressure: Normal
operations - pressure not high. During
breakdowns and downtime, pressure can be
high.
- Problem Solving: Most tasks are simple and
repetitive. Should tasks go beyond the
incumbent’s knowledge, he must contact his
supervisor.
- Decision Making: Decisions need to be of a
high quality. Decisions regarding the
serviceability and state of repair of equipment
often have to be discussed with the
Production Manager. No modification or
alterations can be made to the existing
equipment without consultation with the
Production Manager.
- Collaboration: Ability to develop cooperation
and teamwork while participating in a group of
people.
- Integrity: Ability to maintain social, ethical,
and organizational norms. Ability to firmly
adhere to codes of conduct and ethical
principles.
- Planning: Daily tasks must be planned and
prioritized.
- Impact/Influence of job: Normal activities
have a fair impact on budget, operating
expenses and quality of work, safety etc.
There is very little room for mistake.

To successfully Co-ordinate ALL production activities on the SACC Ballengeich site.
5. PRINCIPAL RESULTS
Action Expected Results
• Ensure Production goals in terms of safety,
quality and quantity.
• Maintain a high standard of plant maintenance.
• Create a culture of teamwork and shared goals.
• Ensure that a high standard of discipline is
maintained at all times.
• Apply acknowledged problem solving techniques
to find the root cause of deviations.
• Analyse abnormal situations and propose
alternatives.
• Assist in the preparation of the annual budget.
• Accept responsibility for the control of the budget
within area of responsibility.
• Actively involved in the implementation and
maintenance of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and safety
programmes.
• Responsible for preparing monthly reports.
• Co-ordinates all training requirements.
• Perform Standby duties
• Identify training needs of his team
• Coaching and mentoring of sub-ordinates
• Ensure all process parameters are maintained
within specification.
• Ensure that all defects are reported, and follow
up on outstanding defects.
• Communicate fluently with operating &
maintenance personnel as well as senior
management.
• Take corrective action when needed if ill-
discipline affects operations.
• Reduce plant down time and keep production
rolling to achieve targets.

• Assists in ensuring that there are sufficient funds
in the budget to cover daily operations as well
as emergencies when they arise.
• Ensures that the budget is well managed to see
the department through the financial year.
• Ensures compliance to relevant safety standard

• Ensures all activities for the month are reported
accurately.
• Contributes to the continuous improvement of
the company by ensuring employees are trained
appropriately.
• Ensure Safety of all personnel working in a
hazardous environment
