This document summarizes the history of television and discusses some of the ethical dilemmas associated with the technology. It traces the origins of television back to early demonstrations in the 1920s and highlights Philo Farnsworth's pivotal role in developing electronic television. The document also outlines two types of early television (mechanical and electronic), discusses the evolution of electronic TV sets, and how television is used to both inform and entertain audiences. Finally, it examines four ethical dilemmas around using television to promote prosocial values, distinguishing prosocial from antisocial content, limiting unintended effects, and its use as a persuasive tool.
