literacy!
Before handing it in - or writing it up in neat – check
your draft by yourself or with a partner, working
against the checklist below. I highly recommend
you get a parent or friend to proofread it for you!
Check that you have done all of the following things
correctly and tick them off once you have checked.

Perfect spelling! – especially of key words
Full stops at end of sentences
Question marks at end of questions
Exclamation marks to add intensity
Speech marks before and after words
actually spoken
You have begun speech with a capital
letter
Capital letters:
At the beginning of sentences
Names of places and people
Days and months
Some interesting vocabulary
Similes or metaphors
You have used different words to begin
sentences
Synonyms for ‘said’ (‘whispered’,
‘mumbled’ etc)
Used connectives in the middle of
sentences (‘so’, ‘however’ etc)
