What are our objectives:

I. To instil to our students passion for History
II. To equip them with life long academic skills
such as: critical thinking, synthesis and analysis
III. To encourage them to care for detail
IV. To reflect upon a varied pallet of ideas
so as to present their own blend of
in depth evaluations
V. To encourage them to challenge
stereotypes
We teach our students:
World History Topics:
I. A detailed study of the socioeconomic consequences of
WWI & WWII
II. The ideological platforms of
single party rulers
III. A detailed study of the socio
- political and economic
circumstances, of
totalitarian regimes via
selected case studies
IV. A thorough examination of
Imperial Russia
V. A journey through the early
years of the Cold War
How do we teach History:
Methods used:
I. Students explore a variety of
primary and secondary
sources as a way to delve
into the events and lives of
history protagonists
II. Essay writing techniques are
thoroughly practiced
III. Students are acquainted
with historiography via
personal research of
recommended bibliography
IV. Class debates are the
vehicle through which
challenging controversial
views of history are tested
Our students are assessed:
Assessment methods involve:
I. External examinations by the
IBO along with a History
Project
II. Internal repetitive
assessment involving
essays, past exam papers
and class presentations
III. Class preparation includes
personal research with note
taking as a point of
reference for further
discussion
