I am a qualified professional 'Counsellor-Psychotherapist’ with experience of working in a NHS
IAPT Mental Health setting, and within a multi-cultural framework. I am committed to providing
appropriate structured, personalised recovery-based models of intervention for people with
complex mental health problems through an assessmentofneeds.
I work with individuals to help them overcome a range of psychological and emotional issues,
and cover a range of evidenced-based psychological therapies to help promote individual
mental health in the one-to-one person-centered relationship, establishing a collaborative
working relationship with the client based on trust, respect, and actively listening, also, letting
the client be an active participant in the therapies session. As a therapist I may work with
clients for just a few sessions or over a longer period of time to explore issues in a holistic and

sessions. At MASCS I see clients with various concerns, eg, anxiety, depression, relationship
problems, low self-esteem, coping difficulties, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Bury IAPT, which is now known as Healthy Minds, this is a very busy in-demand service,
served by a multi-disciplinary Primary Care Mental Health Team. My responsibility was one of
a student (Step3 care) Bereavement Counsellor, offering treatment to clients who presented
with mild to moderate mental health problems.
I managed a caseload of 20 clients, which consisted of one, six or eight, one-hour sessions
depending on the client’s needs. In this role I would screen existing referrals, chose a suitable
referral to contact to offer a face-to-face assessment for Counselling. During the initial
assessmentIwould perform a risk assessmentthat was compiled ofthe following forms:
NHS Core-Om forms, ie, PHQ9, GAD7, IAPT Phobia Scale and Work and Social
Adjustment, These forms would be completed every therapeutic session.
Primary Care NHS Foundation Trust Mandatory Information form.
Bury IAPT/ Primary Care Mental Health Team Step 3 form.

The information would be collated and entered onto the IAPT- PC-MIS computer system were
client out comes could be measured (measurement is central to improving service
quality/patient experience and accountability).
During the initial sessions, if any safeguarding / risks are identified; risks to the wellbeing of
service users, staff and others) it is important to demonstrate sensitivity & competence in
relation to diversity, race, faith, age, gender, disability and sexual orientation. Any risk
concerns raised would be discussed at my line-management /supervision meetings in line with
relevantlegislation / existing policies and guidance.
Whilst at Healthy Minds Bury I volunteered with a CBT therapist providing the Long Term
Condition (LTC) group. I volunteered for three cohorts, which consisted of seven, one and half
3. sessions. My role was to support the CBT therapist whilst offering a ‘person centred’ role to
the clients. The LTC group provides psychological and emotional support to their clients;
coupled with their professional approach/experience/ knowledge the professionals can help
educate /support their clients and help them to come to terms with their on-going, life-long
condition(s) and the impact it has on their everyday activities, and to improve their emotional
wellbeing.

opportunities where invaluable as they provided me with knowledge of group work and working
with clients presenting with different psychological and well-being problems.
