Chapter 16
1. Makers and Finders
A Cursed Baby Boom Challenge
Chapter 16
Snowflake Day dawned, and I awoke with a new plan. I needed to learn sculpting skill for
my lifetime want, and also to create furniture for the family. We had a functional double-bed in
our igloo, so I decided we should buy an all-in-one bathroom and sculpting station, instead. Of
course, I still needed to complete my glassblowing training, to be able to build a room to shelter
these objects, but that skill went very fast, and I was confident I could do it by Saturday night.
Matt was in charge of learning charisma, so that (with one of us topping logic), we could
eventually have electronic devices on our lot, and for that, he'd need more friends. So, my plan
for the day was to start another epic game of tag at the winter festival grounds. When noon came
around, we could both move on to our own skilling, while our new friend circle kept things
going at the park. As long as he made enough friends to build his charisma, it would do quite
nicely.
2. Holidays are definitely the best time to play epic games of tag. Most people are out and
about, enjoying their time off, so it's easy to spot them and bring them into the action. And
festival grounds or other large parks are ideal for the game, too. There's plenty of room at the
winter festival, and the friendships soon started to build up. Good thing, too, because without
taking the time to keep them up, Matt had gone from eight friends to merely three, not enough to
get another level of Charisma. This game was both fun and functional, helping us to lift another
aspect of the curse.
3. At noon, I left Matt to keep up the game, himself. He could invite more people to join, and
build up the friendships all day, if necessary. After all, he deserved the fun, and with less than
one point left to go in handiness, he would surely make that goal by Saturday night. He might as
well focus on the friendships, and ensure that they would not fade away again, like they did
before.
I went to the art studio, and started making glassware to decorate our future home.
It's hot work, but very fun. All you artistic sims out there have got to try this!
4. Meanwhile, Matt managed to make enough friends to be considered super-friendly. He'd
never have to worry about a friendship degrading again. Pretty soon, he became the most
popular sim in town!
Well, can you blame them all for liking him? He's such a great guy!
Note: Glassblowing is not quite so fun when you scorch yourself in the face with the blow
torch. Don't try this at home, kids, and be sure you have adequate first aid close at hand.
5. No, this isn't what it looks like to burn yourself with hot glass. I forgot that it was a full
moon, and had to drop everything, while I changed into my werewolf form. But I already had
level 6 in the skill, and had a few hours left before curfew, so I could do a bit more.
Matt ended the day back at the station, but this time, his co-workers had actually taken over
maintaining the engine and alarm, so he was free to do some upgrades. With less than one point
to go, he was sure to make it by Saturday night, and might even move on to Charisma.
6. At the end of the day, I'd say it was even more productive than I originally thought it would
be. Still, it was a holiday, and we celebrated in an appropriate way, all while making progress
toward our goals. Happy Snowflake Day!
Readers, please let me know in the comments how you like to celebrate Snowflake Day.
What are your favorite traditions, or do you dispense with tradition, altogether, the way Matt and
I have done? Do you think we should establish traditions for our children, or just go with the
flow in our family?
See you tomorrow!
