• 1 Lumen is the amount of total
light emitted when a ‘standard’
candle called a Candela lights the
surface of a sphere of 1M radius of
1 Steradian angle:
• 1 Lux is the resulting illumination
at the surface.
(There are 4 П Steradians in a sphere thus a
candle creates 4 П Lumens)

• 1 Candle is very inefficient as a
light source and uses approximately
80W of power, the total amount of
light emitted is 12.57 Lumens:
• Efficacy of a candle is about:
12.57/80 = 0.16 Lm/W !

• Humankind has developed new more efficient light sources …but color is almost
important.
• Low Pressure Sodium has the highest efficacy, but the yellow color is not
acceptable for general lighting!

• The Highest Possible Theoretical Light Efficacy that can be achieved is:
683 Lm/W. ( A source at 683 Lm/W produces no heat or ultra violet radiation only visible spectrum)
• Light Sources produce UV and IR radiation which is not useful for lighting
applications. (Below: Solar Spectrum of which part is visible light to which our eyes are adapted.)

efficacy of 150Lm/W:
• Heat Given off is approximately: 50W X (1-150/683) = 39W

experience in the development and innovation of lighting products.
• 2nd - Extensive Studies have been made of all presently available LED
technologies which led to the following negative conclusions:
Available LED Modules rely on high density COB (Chip On Board) manufacturing technology
which concentrates a lot of power in a small area – creating hot-spots.
Thermal management is left to the user which requires in-depth engineering skills and LED
characteristic knowledge which is not available from the manufacturer.
There are hundreds of LED chip technologies available, each with conflicting parameters; each
application requires the judicious choice of certain parameters to optimize operating conditions.
Leading western manufacturers do not offer the best LED chips on the market!
Published performance of LED Modules do not include final luminaire system losses, so in fact,
performance is far worse in the final product.
Heat and optical density are primary factors affecting life, performance and reliability of LED
lighting systems, competitor products.
