University:
Academic Level:
Major:
Co-op Term:
Projects & Tasks:
1) Learn CATIA
2) Model and design props, fixtures, and supports
3) Update op-standards and safety risks in PDDA for
new models
3. Learning CATIA:
Friendlier to a new user
Able to model in 3D
and then draw in 2D
Toolbars with large buttons
Less assumptions made
when modeling Create assemblies of
multiple parts
Toolbars with three times as
many smaller buttons
Very similar functions, different
vocabulary
Geometric and
dimensional constraints
Similar UI
Default hotkeys
4. Fixtures & Props:
Current Situation:
• Lots of associate movement
• Lose track of designs, dimensions, and intent
Objective:
• Model and create 2D drawings of fixtures,
props, and supports in order to allow easy
manufacturing and access.
Improvement:
• Establish constraints which allow for
easy future modification
Result:
• 3D models that are designed under the
assumption that they will need to be
changed in the future.
• Fewer lost and non-updated drawings.
5. Bumper Supports:
Current Situation:
• Bumpers for new model need to be held securely through the
painting process
• Steel supports cause deforms and inconsistencies from heat
Objective:
• Model and create 2D drawings of prototype bumper
supports
• Allow top of bumper supports to detach and get
cleaned easily
Result:
• Mass production of new model bumper
plates and supports
• Initial design for Delron/steel supports
completed
8. PDDA (Process Data Development & Analysis)
Current Situation:
• Operation standards need to be
updated for new models
• Ergonomic risks need to be reassessed
Objective:
• Update operation standards for new
model Accord, ILX, and TLX
Result:
• Improved categorization of different
processes
• Clear pronunciation of quality
standards
• Updated safety risks on line
9. HART (Honda of America Racing Team)
• Autocross preparation and competition
• Meets at AEP (Anna, OH)
• Volunteer associates
• Drive
• Maintain
• Hands-on technical experience
• Improved diagnostic ability
• Opportunity to instruct less experienced
members
• Experience on an established, well-funded race
team
10. Lessons learned from co-op:
• Familiarized with a professional setting
– Assembly
– Design
– Communication
• New 3D modeling software
Future interests:
• Automotive field
– Motorsport
– Aftermarket performance parts
– High performance production vehicles
