Bodegas Martinez Saez, based in the Denomination of Origin La Mancha has tasked Messum Export with the introduction of its various wines into the UK and Irish markets.
2. BODEGAS MARTINEZ SAEZ
One Man’s Vision
Forming part of the Denomination of Origin of La
Mancha and situated in the San José
estate, Bodegas Martinez Saez, is the product of
one man’s dream to bring innovation and
production quality to his beloved wine growing
lands.
In a clear break with what seems to be the local
tradition of making bulk, low grade wine, Don Angel
Martinez has, over the last half a century, created a
bodega that seeks to challenge quantity with
quality.
The winery, which after years of clever
investment, can boast some of the most modern
production techniques, is set among 115 hectares
(284 acres) of sandy La Mancha soil, with an
average height of over 850 metres above sea level.
Aromatic wild herbs of mint and rosemary, extreme
daily variations in temperature and a steady but not
excessive annual rainfall mean that Bodegas
Martinez Saez enjoys a remarkably unique micro-
climate in which to care for its array of grape
varieties.
With conditions like these its little wonder Don
Martinez chose this site to set up camp and preach
to the world about the quality and potential of D.O.
La Mancha.
