  5. Hi, I’m Ann Rolfe of Mentoring Works. I started over 30 years ago in the finance industry. I have a background in career development and adult learning and I’ve been specialising in helping organisations set up mentoring since 1994.\n

  12. Think of building a mentoring strategy like building a house. With a house, you lay a foundation then start with a framework. You roof it with tiles or slate or metal. You clad it in bricks, or timber or other materials. You choose interior finishes that suit your lifestyle, your preferences and your budget. Then you move in and decorate it with the furniture and accessories that make it uniquely yours.\nI’ll give you the foundation and framework for your strategy. You’ll build the solid structure and add finishes that suit your organization, your people, the outcomes you want to achieve as well as your budget. \nJust like building a house, there are many variables and decisions to be made.\n
  13. So you need to start with a plan, a blueprint that maps out clearly, every aspect. This course allows you to develop your mentoring strategy and document a blueprint for every element. It is a big task, but you don’t have to complete it alone because I will personally guide you, step by step through the process. You’ll have examples, templates and checklists to help you. \n\nThe course is a culmination of thirty years experience in learning and development and sixteen years of specialising in mentoring.\n\n\n

The design model we’ll apply was used to develop the mentoring program that was awarded the LearnX Asia Pacific Platinum Award for Best Coaching/Mentor Training Program 2011.\n\nThe four core aspects of your mentoring strategy are: \nPlanning, which is about determining the outcomes you want and detailing how they’ll be achieved;\nPromoting mentoring - having a communication plan that helps people understand and support mentoring;\nPreparing participants - making sure they know what’s expected of them and have the knowledge and skills for their roles; and \nProgram Support - ongoing follow-up, monitoring and activities that keep people engaged and effective.\n\n\n\n\n
  16. The blueprint you prepare during this course will document:\nYour Definition of Mentoring \nand in the first module of the course we’ll explore what mentoring is, could be or should be in your situation.\n
  17. then, We’ll carefully determine the program Aims, Focus and Objectives - what you plan to achieve for your organisation and people through mentoring and how you’ll know that you have. This is the foundation of your strategy.\n\n
  18. You will plan Evaluation - by identifying success indicators and how you will measure them.\n\n
  19. You’ll develop Guidelines - roles and responsibilities of mentors and mentorees. How often partners will be in touch, for how long each time and over what period. Whether contact primarily face-to-face, online or phone and one-to-one or in a group.\n\n
  20. You’ll decide how you will Recruit, Select and Match participants.\n\n
  21. You’ll figure out the knowledge, skills and attributes needed and how they will be developed - what training is needed\n\n
  22. You’ll develop your Communication Plan - how will you get the mentoring message across and keep all stakeholders engaged.\n\n
  23. And you will consider Sustainability - the infrastructure and support program that will maintain engagement.\n\n
  24. You’ll make decisions about Program Management - who coordinates and monitors the program and what reporting will be needed.\n\n
  25. All of that allows you to determine what you need in the way of Resources - the time, information, people and facilities required and a budget.\n\n
  26. \nFinally, you can work out a realistic Timeline - the time frame for preparation, implementation and completion.\n\n
  27. We’re going to do this over the ten modules of the course, that you see listed here. Each module includes an online tutorial, like this one, some reading and activities for you to do. \n
  28. You and I will speak by phone, Skype or online, and in our one-to-one mentoring session, we’ll review the work you’ve done for each module. You can email me any questions or topics you’d like addressed in the mentoring session and I’ll help you with any challenges you have.\n
  29. How quickly you complete the course is up to you. You can take ten weeks, twenty weeks or ten months. We’ll email your e-course weekly, every second week, or once a month, depending on what you’ve chosen. \n
  30. You have access to the participant resource page, with all the tutorials, templates, checklists and models for twelve months from your start date. There are also some extra webinar recordings and ebooks you can access there.\n
