American Express’ Global Network Services (GNS) is dedicated to supporting our
relationships with banks and financial institutions that issue American Express-branded
cards accepted on our global merchant Network. Launched in 1997, GNS has become the
premium network of choice for card issuers interested in establishing and growing a high-
quality payment card business backed by the global reach and brand awareness of
American Express.

More than 100 banks and financial institutions work closely with our dedicated
relationship managers to customize a suite of product features with proven appeal to the
best customers in the world. A highly competitive network infrastructure helps our
partners serve their own targeted customer segments with individually tailored benefits,
built upon American Express’ quality and operating standards, including 24-hour
customer service, our highly efficient and secure transaction processing system and our
worldwide network of more than 2,200 travel service locations.

As a result of this intense customer focus, our partners’ customers spend more with our
merchant network, which supports our premium economics, raising the value of our
network for all participants: our partners, merchants and customers.

The American Express network is fundamentally different from payment systems run by
other bank associations. Our issuing partners enjoy these distinct advantages:

   •   Unique Closed-Loop Network: Maintaining direct relationships with merchants in
       our network, our partners leverage more targeted marketing and more effective
       customer loyalty programs.
   •   Innovative Products and Services: Our spend-centric economic model includes
       products and features that appeal to high-spending, deeply loyal customers.
   •   World-Class Relationship Support: We are proud to partner with a select group of
       the world’s leading financial institutions, partners who share our intense customer
       focus and commitment to quality. Our partners engage with us in a dynamic,
       personalized process to improve and grow our mutual capabilities.

GNS partners have extended American Express’ merchant coverage to more corners of
the globe and brought the American Express brand to a broader range of customers. In
just a decade, GNS has accelerated our network’s growth in market presence and profits
and built a sustainable, long-term position as the best payments system network in the
world.
