Hinkson Creek Health Center
The horizontal expansion scheme for Hinkson Creek Health Center proposes a modular approach using pavilions connected by corridors. This allows the complex to grow incrementally based on need, while maintaining connections between services.
Key aspects:
- Central corridor acts as the primary connection, with pavilions radiating off on either side. This preserves the campus plan organization.
- Pavilions can be single or double loaded, accommodating a variety of functions. Structural independence of each pavilion allows flexibility.
- Corridors provide covered outdoor circulation between buildings, protecting users from weather. They also define outdoor spaces.
- Higher priority services like

CHICAGO LYRIC OPERA HOUSE
Year 4, Fall 2015
Location :
Gateway Park Chicago with a Lake
Michigan waterfront, east of Navy
Pier
In a city with famed performing arts culture, the
Chicago Opera Complex cherishes this heritage with its
brilliant architecture and streetscape. Situated in what
was formerly Gateway Park Chicago, the Chicago Lyric
Lakeshore Drive with its popular neighbour, Navy Pier.
proposed design includes the Opera Plaza (retail center),
a stepped courtyard, a dock for Chicago tour ferries,
a parking garage, the Back of House building and the
Chicago Lyric Opera House itself.

28. Flanked by Lake Michigan from three directions,
the peninsular site allows for an axis that separates
the parking garage from the main Opera building and
guides pedestrian avenues and vehicular entry into
towards its waterfront promenade.While the
buildings may seem pulled apart due to distinctive
sky-bridge system with a sleek, modern appeal.
Truly, the Opera Complex is a shared experience for
opera-goers, shoppers and Chicago enthusiasts alike.

The Auditorium
Warm, wood tones reveal the richness of the
auditorium as a sharp contrast to its cool, white
lobby. Using a horseshoe shape with a suitably
suspended, seamless and sound - absorbing
curved ceiling form (that holds the recessed
lighting bridges), we were able to implement
good acoustics within this jewel of the opera
house - that can be used for other sorts of
theatrical performances as well.

40. Splitlog Rain Barrel Manual
Leakage monitoring
In case of leaks, please replace leaky parts with appropriate
hardware. It is advisable to keep using a brass piece of hard-
ware for such an assembly and not a dissimilar metal . While
doing so, also make sure to seal any threaded parts with thread
seal tape and any barrel holes with plumbing sealant.
How to use and maintain the Rain Barrels:
Access Panel
The barrels sit on a wooden frame into the ground. An access panel covers the hose connec-
tions between barrels. Please unscrew the panel piece perhaps once a month to check for
leaks beneath connections. Also please advise against children leaning against the barrel or
walking over the panel as it can prove dangerous for them.
Barrel Filters
The first barrel is open and fitted with a mosquito netting to
collect leaves and debris . Check regularly to see if you need to
replace this filter screen- one can be bought for under $6 a yard
from Hancock Fabrics. Also, a yard can be used to make two
such screens. Fold the netting once and make sure it has a slight
depression before sealing the barrel lid over it, to minimise
splash as water comes down the downspout. While barrel filters
must be checked regularly, so must the gutters be checked
against collection of leaves, pests and debris.
Winterizing your Barrels
It is important to prepare the barrels for the cold season and also for return to the
warm season to avoid any hassle or expense with replacement of parts.
Drain the barrels using the garden hoses attached to the spigot and faucet diverter,
thus taking the barrels out of operation. Drain this water outside of the greenhouse
and direct water away from the foundation. Turn barrels upside down if you must, to
completely empty the water (be careful of the weight of full barrels) and avoid crack-
ing of the barrels. When barrel is empty, attempt to clean out any accumulated muck
to prevent biological growth. Clean and wipe barrels, cover them and turn them
upside down to prevent any water collection during cold months.
Drier months/ Water diversion
Between the second and third barrel, the hose has been
fitted with a faucet diverter. Turning its knob allows you to
either a) lock the water flow so that only the first two barrels
receive water and the rest is directed through a hose or
b) continue water flow to the other two barrels.
Spigot Use
Two spigots have
been provided: the
first allows for
water to exit
through a garden
hose and the one
on the second
barrel can be used
to fill water in
buckets.
Overflow
The first barrel is fitted with an overflow
hose on the top. Check this overflow
connection regularly to make sure excess
water is being directed properly. This is so
that your barrel doesn’t capsize in times of
excess water!
Thank you for taking care of your barrels!
