5. Recycling and Reducing Waste
⢠Aims to be able to recycle all the glasses and packaging used in stores.
⢠Firstly, they started with recycled bin. In 2014, 47% of waste has been
recycled*

⢠They also started using a recycled cup, recycling metarials and recycling bag.
⢠Each year, an estimated 600 billion paper and plastic cups are distributed globally, and though Starbucks
cups only account for an estimated 1 percent of that total. they are invested in finding a more sustainable
solution.

7. Ethical Business
⢠Starbucks ethical business is one of the social responsibility projects carried out in Turkey.
They attribute their success to that of farmers and suppliers who grow their crops.
Farmer Support:
⢠They work with farmers to improve coffee quality and invest in loan programs for coffee-growing
communities.
⢠By helping coffee producers sustain and strengthen their communities, they ensure a healthy supply of
high-quality coffee for the future.
⢠Their goal is: By 2015, we plan to increase your farmer loan commitment to $ 20 million and provide
farmers with incentives to reduce the environmental impact of coffee production.
Responsible Production
⢠They demonstrate a comprehensive ethical procurement approach with sectoral collaborations
and programs that support social development.
⢠Measures evaluated by independent verification protect workers' rights, help them work
and live in safe and humane conditions. Minimum wage application, preventing child labor and
not forced labor are among the rules that must be followed.
8. Helping Schools
⢠Starbucks has been helping schools since 2003. Within the
framework of the social responsibility understanding of
Starbucks to bring individuals to the society, it has focused its
studies in the field of education on primary schools.
⢠Within the scope of our project, which they carried out with
the support of the Ministry of National Education, Starbucks
determined a Sister School for each of our stores between
2003 and 2012.
⢠Supporting the social development of our students; they
organized many different events such as painting contests,
chess tournaments, and theater studies.
9. #Eldenele Project
Starbuckâs goal is to provide all their baristas received training in sign language in Turkey and they can express
themselves freely and to offer our hearing-impaired guests the opportunity to socialize in an environment they
understood.
⢠Starbucks made a coffee dictionary published for Turkish Sign Language
⢠Starbucks trained their baristas working in more than 50 stores.
10. Tohum Autism Foundation
⢠Starbucks aim to support the awareness raising activities carried out by
Tohum Autism Foundation, to raise awareness about autism in society,
to make their volunteer employees better equipped about autism with
special training.
⢠Since the 2009 Christmas period, Starbucks have transferred some of the
sales of Christmas Blend core coffees, to Tohum Autism Foundation.

Energy Conservation
⢠Starbucks use environmentally friendly wind energy produced from renewable energy sources in
their stores.
Green Shops
⢠Starbucks work to create green stores by using environmentally friendly materials and systems that
reduce carbon emissions.
⢠They use environmentally friendly construction materials and furniture in our stores and implement
practices that will save energy and water.

⢠Used coffee grounds are offered free of charge to their guests and can be used as fertilizer for
the nutrition of plants.
12. Climate Change
⢠Today, climate change is the biggest threat to our world. When we look at the world map, we can
see that the regions where coffee is produced and where the tropical forests are located are the
same.
⢠For this reason taking steps towards climate change is an important priority for Starbucks. They are
carrying out many studies to protect the forests in the regions where coffee is grown against climate
change and to improve the quality of life of coffee farmers.
⢠Starbucks goal: They are implementing programs that will support farmers to protect natural
resources, to implement sustainable agricultural practices and to make the high earnings they
deserve from the high-quality coffees they grow.
⢠ââWe strive to significantly reduce our environmental footprint by saving energy and water,
reducing waste for our glasses, increasing recycling and increasing the number of stores that
support environmental design.ââ
