Question 6 – what have you learnt about technologies from constructing this product?
1. Question 6 – What have you learnt
about technologies from
constructing this product?
By Megan English
2. Blogger
• To display my coursework I had to use a popular website specialised
for blogs called Blogger. I learnt a lot from Blogger and found it
particularly useful for uploading all my content for my coursework. I
first began blogger by splitting it into sections from Preliminary task-
Research-planning-construction-evaluation. By doing this I could
easily find my work for each specific topic. By learning how to use
Blogger I can now upload and embed links from websites such as
YouTube, emaze etc. and incorporate them in my work for other
people to see how I’ve developed in usage of technology. The
challenging side of Blogger that I found was managing to update
regularly and continue with new posts every week and having a
balanced time schedule to post.
3. Serif movie maker
• I’d never used serif before this project so everything was new to me. I learnt how
to use the software appropriately and make the film to a high level of quality.
During the process I learnt how to insert/embed video recordings and audio files
then conjoining them together to make the film. I figured out how to apply filters
and transitions for each shot of the film but unfortunately I didn’t need to use the
filters as I found it made my film blurry and took away the seriousness of the film.
I found it also made the audience question what was happening in the film as the
filters didn’t make sense. I learnt how to make the editing look professional in a
way by learning out to create transitions from one scene to another and learnt
how to crop footage and fade out the scene to a title sequence etc. I used a
background track of music from the software to add to my film which worked
well I felt fir the genre and didn’t draw too much attention from the film. Some of
the challenges I faced with serif was having to keep pre rendering the video so
footage and sound didn’t jump or skip which took time out editing.
4. DSLR Camera –NIKON D3100
• To create the actual scenes for my film opening I used a NIKON D3100 DSLR
Camera. I used this particular camera because it gave clear, high quality
shots and was easier to use after having previous experience with it. The
camera was light and a ideal size to transport to all the locations I needed
to film at. The camera had different settings and one of the features was
the lense feature to change the f stop and the depth of field to focus on a
specific object then focusing out to a different object in the shot. It also
allowed me to change the focus to make the shot clear for the audience.
The camera came with a tripod which made it easier to film certain camera
angles for example high angle shots and mid shots. It also made it easier
for me to incorporate camera movement of panning across the screen etc.
The tripod made it easier to create clearer shots by stabilizing the camera
to avoid any shakes that handheld may have. I did this to show the
calmness in certain scenes but the handheld shaky camera scene brought
the tension and action to the audience.
5. Presentation software and websites
• I had to present my ideas/planning/research and evaluation on
presentation websites such as Emaze,Slideshare, prezi etc. I had
previously used Prezi and slide share before so managed to get the
hang out it quickly websites like Emaze and youtube were new to me
so I had to learn how to embed and upload my content for example
images and text. I found the most challenging software to be prezi
and emaze because I couldn’t upload certain content on emaze as
easily compared to the to the other softwares and Prezi because I
found it difficult to write a lot with out the size of the writing reducing
and being unable to see it afterwards.
