• Tata Autocomp Systems provides products and services to
Indian and global automative manufacturers
• One of India’s leading manufacturer of automotive
components
• Deals in a wide range of auto-component systems like interior
& exterior plastic products, kinematic plastic parts,
automotive batteries, radiators, rear view mirrors, sheet metal
components etc.
• Provides global consultancy services for domains like interios
& exteriors, lighting, electrical distribution etc.
• The company not just produces these components, it also
provides for the logistics and takes responsibility for the
delivery.
THE ENGINEERING PROCESS
INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES USED
The company uses many industrial processes to improve the
overall quality and efficiency of the output and at the same
time reduce costs to stay at par with its competition. It
conforms to the following standards for the same :
• Six Sigma
• Kaizen
• TBEM
• Implementation of ERP
• ISO 14000
• ISO 14001 environmental standards
SIX SIGMA IN TATA AUTOCOMP
Six Sigma essentially means improving the business
processes followed in an organisation for serving the
customers better and as a result achieving the planned
organisational objectives.
Tata Autocomp followed the following strategy in order
to reduce their error rate of production :
• Identification of the problem : It was identified so as
to which process needs improvement and why
• Measurement of performance : The current
production was measured as against the target
production
• Analysis of the problem : The causes for the apparent gaps between
the production were identified and crutinised.
• Improvement : Appropriate measures were undertaken to ensure
that those gaps are filled.
• Control : A detailed plan was established to make sure the
improved process is sustained and thus a control mechanism was
put into place.
Tata Autocomp didn’t just ensure the completion of the Six sigma
process, but they made sure the process is followed and monitored till
date. This resulted in the company doing financially better not just in
operational area of production but also in the overall business goals
which had little association with six sigma.
Through such effective implemetation of six sigma in various sub-
projects, Tata Autocomp is inching closer to its target of an error rate
of merely 50 parts per million.

  • 6. Six Sigma essentially means improving the business processes followed in an organisation for serving the customers better and as a result achieving the planned organisational objectives. Tata Autocomp followed the following strategy in order to reduce their error rate of production : • Identification of the problem : It was identified so as to which process needs improvement and why • Measurement of performance : The current production was measured as against the target production
  • 7. • Analysis of the problem : The causes for the apparent gaps between the production were identified and crutinised. • Improvement : Appropriate measures were undertaken to ensure that those gaps are filled. • Control : A detailed plan was established to make sure the improved process is sustained and thus a control mechanism was put into place. Tata Autocomp didn’t just ensure the completion of the Six sigma process, but they made sure the process is followed and monitored till date. This resulted in the company doing financially better not just in operational area of production but also in the overall business goals which had little association with six sigma. Through such effective implemetation of six sigma in various sub- projects, Tata Autocomp is inching closer to its target of an error rate of merely 50 parts per million.
