2. Initial Ideas
Our initial idea, something that Madi
has been imagining for some time, was
having a group of teens having fun on
a field, however it keeps cross cutting
and glitching to a more morbid scene
of the same group of lads.
At the beginning, we would use one
shot that tracks different conversations
among the boys, switching between
them as they walk and cutting to their
horrific fate in the future. We
mentioned using graphic matches,
such as one of the guys wiping sweat
off his neck, cutting to blood dripping
down his hand instead of sweat.
4. Second Idea
We imagined someone tied to a chair, being
shown through extreme close ups of the rope
and their body, highlighted by chiaroscuro
lighting and a disturbing and distorted cover of
'Baby its cold outside' (Frank Sinatra) playing on
a broken record since that song was removed
from the UK charts due to holding a woman
against their will. I can see clearly a
claustrophobic, sweaty environment; something
that promotes disorientation and an
uncomfortable feeling. The camera would pull
back up the stairs to see a family having a fun
dinner, juxtaposing the mood of the first half of
the scene.

7. Inspiration
Camera pulling away from crime scene, shows how
society is still continuing normally.
We loved the idea of how such horrific things are
able to happen such close proximity

The non-diegetic music would gradually become more distorted and full of static and uncomfortable sounds that suddenly crescendos on the cross cuts to signify a change in mood and have the audience on edge. For inspiration, our teacher, Mr. Harrison, showed us the opening scene from 'Brick' (Rian Johnson, 2005), which used the type of graphic match that we had envisaged.
Hitchcock inspired – camera pulls back all the way up the stairs to a family having dinner and having fun. Music is less broken, lighting is high key, shots are longer (medium shots etc).
