The three most holy sites in Islam are Mecca, Medina, and Jerusalem. Mecca is home to the Kaaba and is the holiest city for Muslims, who are expected to make a pilgrimage there at least once in their lifetime if able. Medina is the city where the prophet Muhammad first recited the Quran and where he is buried. Jerusalem contains the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and is the third holiest city in Islam.
