Being obese and pregnant brings many risks on being pregnant
as it brings many complications, including;
- Gestational diabetes
- Preeclampsia (high blood pressure and signs of damage to
another organ system, often in the kidneys)
- Infection
- Overdue pregnancy
- Labour problems

3. Effects on the baby when mother is overweight
Being overweight raises the chance that your pregnancy goes
past the due date, this makes it more likely that the labour
will be induced. Other effects include;
- Birth defects
- Large baby
- Stillbirth
- Preterm birth (the baby may not be fully developed)

Being obese causes many problems including;
- Coronary heart disease
- High blood pressure
- Strokes
- Type 2 diabetes

- Fertility problems
