4. BUSINESS DESCRIPTION
Bhubezi Mining Solutions was started by a group of motivated businesmen investors who saw
that there was an opportunity for a diversified, quality focused drilling services company to enter
the Southern African market.
Bhubezi Mining Solutions has made a conscientious decision to enter the South African drilling
contracting market using only high quality modern multipurpose drilling equipment, experienced
staff and solutions orientated focus. With our combined 50+ years drilling industry experience,
including drilling services and management, along with a diverse market knowledge and
understanding of South Africa’s unique geological nature, Bhubezi Mining Solutions can provide
cost effective drilling solutions to the Drilling and Exploration markets.
Bhubezi Mining Solutions works closely with its clients and suppliers from a projects inception to
ensure that we are in a position to offer you the equipment, experience and quality of
workmanship that you expect and require. Bhubezi Mining Solutions has acquired four drill rigs
from Booysen Bore and the consumables related to Drilling and Exploration business. This
equipment acquisition reinforces Bhubezi Mining Solutions current significant infrastructure and
will allow Bhubezi Mining Solutions to start with its own four rig capacity, to better serve its
current and future clients in the Drilling and Exploration industry.
5. BUSINESS DESCRIPTION
History
Bhubezi Mining Solutions was established in 2008 with a view to partner with companies seeking
to enhance their BEE credentials without compromising on quality and also with a purpose of
skills transference. The company has since developed into a stand-alone company with its own
drilling capacity.
Our Purpose
The core function of the company is to provide all types of drilling services to the mining sector,
investor companies, governments as well as research institutes.
Future
Ivan Qwelane and Marco van Niekerk have joined forces with Mr Richard Qwelane to establish
Bhubezi Mining Solutions to work closely with Booysen Bore (a current client) for the purpose of
mentorship and support.
The company has an office in Kuruman and is run by Ivan Qwelane (General Manager). Marco
van Niekerk (Finance Director) is responsible for the financial management of the business. Day
to day running of the business is dealt with by the General Manager. Mr Richard Qwelane is the
Operations Director responsible for all our drilling projects.

Our Partnership
Bhubezi Mining Solutions has partnered with various companies where possible for the purpose
of percussion drilling and also for the establishment of the pilot boreholes within their
geographical area of operation.
Our Focus
To provide the industry with a committed company that seeks to grow within the drilling industry
by providing the top of the range drilling machines as well as the well experienced support team
that will deliver quality production. We will adhere to the prescripts of the “Mine Health and
Safety Act, 1996 (Act No. 29 of 1996), as amended”.
We will concentrate on core drilling in the initial stage and then hopefully grow into other areas of
drilling.

along with the “hands on” knowledge and experience to “think outside of the box” (thus the ability

8. MANAGEMENT TEAM
Mbulelo Ivan Qwelane (General Manager)
I qualified as a Librarian from the University of Fort Hare in Alice Eastern Cape and with
experience spanning over 12 years within the printing industry having owned and operated
various printing companies. I also served on various boards and one of them being the Board of
PIFSA (Printing Industries Federation of South Africa) Northern Chamber. Having worked for the
University of the Free State (Library Services) for five years and also Naspers (Content Solutions
Online) for 9 months. I have a vast management experience and have attended various courses
including Corporate Governance with The Institute of Directors and Finance for Non – Financial
Managers with GIBS. I have completed a Programme for Management Development (PMD) with
the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) at end of 2014.
Throughout my life I have been afforded an opportunity to lead groups, organisations and
companies. I have also had an opportunity to sit on a various boards and also be the chairperson
of a governing body (SGB) of a public school with more than 1300 learners and with an annual
budget of R22 million. I view myself as Business manager, Business Mentor, Business
Development Manager and also a seasoned Administrator. I have managed and ran a company
with 34 staff members and an annual turnover of between R11 million and R18 million.
9. MANAGEMENT TEAM
Richard Qwelane (Operations Director – Diamond Drilling)
Richard started working in the drilling industry in 1969 for Unidrilling which late became RUC and
he has drilled in countries such as Sudan, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe . He also worked for
Booysen Bore where he received a lot of accolades for the quality of his work. He decided to
start his own company in order to transfer the skills he has obtained over so man46 years.
Marco van Niekerk (Finance Director)
An entrepreneur who has managed and owned several successful company’s predominantly in
the printing industry for over 25 years. Marco’s strengths lie in the operational and financial side
of the business, and his hands-on approach has proven invaluable in many areas – from the
factory floor right up to boardroom level. His focus is to have to the highest quality standards
and most importantly keeping his clients happy.
10. OUR SERVICES
Diamond Core Exploration Drilling – This has been our core business with more than 8 drill rigs with
various depth size.
Blast hole Drilling - This varies from the sole drilling responsibility on certain mines to taking care of all
secondary and support drilling work on others. Blast-hole drilling diameters include 165mm and 216mm.
Dewatering Drilling - Drilling sizes vary from 26” to 15” and dewatering production holes are delivered
at 13”. Exploration and monitoring holes are also part of the responsibility of this section. Two drill rigs
and support equipment are allocated for this purpose.
Percussion Exploration Drilling - This section’s main responsibility is drilling of piloting holes for
coring rigs. Drilling diameters vary from 10” to 6.5”. Drilling is being done up to 600m deep in iron ore
and related formations.
Reverse Circulation Drilling - is being done inside the opencast mines to support geologists with
timely and accurate information. Wheeled and tracked capability are being utilised. Drilling diameter is
5.5” and depths up to 150m can be drilled
11. SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT
Health and Safety of our staff and those who we come in contact with and the preservation of the
Environment of which we work in is as a key focus to Bhubezi Mining Solutions. We understand
that to be considered for selection as a contractor by a company such as yours we must have
proactive, legally compliant, up to date and accurate Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety
policies and procedures in place. We will endeavour to develop these policies in line with
government regulation.
These policies and procedures will be enforced, monitored and modified as parameters and as
situations change. Bhubezi Mining Solutions will employ a full time Safety officer who will
establish safety reps in each and every site being operated by the company. Our safety reps will
undergo a 3 day SHE Rep and first aid training.
We regularly audit our drill sites to verify compliance with Bhubezi Mining Solutions systems and
standards. We will subscribe to relevant associations and we will endorse random testing to
monitor for any illicit drug and or alcohol use by our staff. Bhubezi Mining Solutions will create
QHS&E checklists to audit sites for compliance and field crew knowledge. We will welcome
clients who wish to also audit our sites to assist us to maintain a high level of compliance with
our systems.
13. SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND MENTORSHIP
We have developed a training manual in line with our core competency being diamond drilling
exploration and blast hole drilling. This manual is to make sure that our staff members continue
to receive continuous training.
South Africa is plagued with a huge gap in terms of skills development. Apart from providing a
drilling service, we are committed to developing the youth of our country.
We aim to do this by:
Doing school visits and creating awareness of the career prospects
Offering learnerships and on-the-job training to enterprising learners
Leveraging support from partners to create bursary schemes and study opportunities
Assisting unemployed matriculants and graduates to find jobs in the sector
Providing employment and development opportunities for locals and South Africans
