MONASTERIES are a
HEAVENLY SIGHT
Perched atop soaring rock pillars up to
550 metres high, the UNESCO-listed
Meteora Monasteries are one of the
most spectacular sights in Greece.
Meteora means ‘suspended in the
air’ and this area was first inhabited
by hermit monks in the 11th century,
with the first monastery dating from
the 1300s. In total, 24 monasteries
were built under seemingly impossible
conditions, with just six surviving today.

Sensational summer 2017 discoveries
April – October 2017
Searching for the spectacular Northern Lights makes for a magical start to Minerva’s
summer programme. Join her as she departs historic Portsmouth to take in
UNESCO-listed treasures, fascinating archaeological sites and unspoilt landscapes
around the shores of the Baltic, Norway, Iceland, the British Isles and France. She
will make several maiden calls along the way before leaving northern waters to escape
to the Mediterranean, where stunning destinations in Spain, Portugal, Italy, Croatia
and more await discovery. Minerva will be doing things a little differently this season,
concentrating on Mediterranean islands such as Corsica and Sardinia rather than
mainland destinations. A cruise taking in Malta and Greece, both overflowing with
outstanding sights such as the Valletta’s Grand Harbour and Athens’ mighty Acropolis,
makes for a fitting finale.
