Blogalicious Weekend Celebrates Diversity in Social Media
Three-Day Action-Packed Conference Includes Hundreds of Influential Multicultural
Women Bloggers and Speakers
Washington, D.C. (September 28, 2010) In two weeks, Blogalicious Weekend
(Blogalicious), the largest blogging conference celebrating diversity in social media, will
kick off their second annual conference at the Ritz-Carlton, South Beach, which will take
place October 8 –10, in Miami, Fla. Blogalicious is expected to have hundreds of online
influencers to come together to share ideas and inspiration in the context of Web 2.0.
Many of these women will include online influencers from the Latina community.
A recent report published by AOL and Cheskin states that the number of Hispanics online
grew faster than the growth of the total U.S. population. This year’s conference highlights
the tremendous growth of Latinas online focusing in a meaningful way on the ethnic
voices of Latinas in the blogosphere.
"The Hispanic community is diverse,” said featured Blogalicious speaker Kety Esquivel,
VP Digital Strategy, Ogilvy PR and Huffington Post blogger. “It includes people who
don't have access to technology and those that are leading the latest innovations in
technology. Recent studies have debunked the myth that the Latino community is not
online. I am honored to be a part of this event with the Blogalicious team who
understands that this is true and for their concerted effort to engage these important
influencers."
Founded by Mamalaw.com bloggers, Nadia Jones, Nyasha Smith and Stacey Ferguson,
Blogalicious Weekend was launched after these three practicing attorneys, who between
them have seven children, realized that there was a dearth in the blogosphere when it
came to the multicultural voices of women bloggers. Nadia Jones, Nyasha Smith and
Stacey Ferguson are also the founders of Mamalaw Media Group (MMG), a company
devoted to raising the profiles of women of color online.
“We believe this is an exciting opportunity to discuss the importance of blogging across
ethnic communities,” says MMG. “The conference will once again ignite a sense of unity
2. within the multicultural blogging community, as well as educate marketers on the
importance of our demographic in today’s marketplace, all while networking, building
relationships and promoting inspiration and success for each other.”
Blogalicious 2010 is expected to have an attendance of hundreds of social media
influencers from various backgrounds. Featured workshops include Marketing to Women
of Color and Building Your Social Media Tribe.
Esquivel will lead a panel discussion on Latinas in Social Media. The three day
conference will feature other Latina blogging experts such as Ana Flores and Roxana
Soto, Spanglish Baby; Jeannette Kaplun, Todo Bebe; Carrie Ferguson Weir, The Tiki
Tiki Blog; Melanie Edwards, Modern Mami; Maura Hernandez, The Other Side of the
Tortilla, Aurelia Flores, Powerful Latinas; DeAnne Cuellar, WIMN Voices; and
Veronica Arreola, Viva la Feminista.
Other featured event speakers on the agenda also include Marc Morial, president of the
National Urban League; James Andrews, The Key Influencer; Miriam Muley, The 85%
Niche; Wayne Sutton, Social Wayne; and Dr. Otis Brawley, American Cancer Society.
Recognizing that multicultural women bloggers are incredibly influential on social issues,
in business and at home, big-brand sponsors will bring attendees new products, swag and
food.
"General Mills (My Blog Spark, Que Rica Vida, Feeding Dreams, Yoplait Light, Nature
Valley and Psst) is very excited to be one of the title sponsors of this year's Blogalicious
Conference," said Kim Bow Sundy, manager of PR and multicultural marketing for
General Mills. "Our team has spent a lot of time on the road and in Minneapolis learning
from bloggers over the past year. We are excited to come to Miami and continue to build
relationships with these key influencers."
Discounted rates for local bloggers in the Miami area and students. For more information
