How to make and use fermented foliar extracts

1. Fermented foliar extracts contain nutrients
and growth factors beneficial to growing
plants.

2. We harvest, before dawn, the fast-growing
leaves of plants such as comfrey, stinging
nettle, mugwort, or vegetables, and weigh,
but DO NOT WASH, the leaves.

3. The vegetation is finely chopped...

4. ...and layered with an equal (or up to 2/3
greater) weight of brown sugar in a clean
crock or bucket.

5. The material is then weighted down with a
weight or “press” (a plastic garbage bag
partially filled with water), to ensure even
coverage, and exclusion of light and air.

6. We remove the press after 24 hours and
cover the container with a breathable,
natural fabric, and place it in the dark at
65-70 ºF for a week.

7. After about one week, the
brown, syrupy liquid that
accumulates is drained off.

8. It can be stored
indefinitely in a glass
container in the
refrigerator.

9. Fermented foliar extracts can be used
as a foliar spray, diluted at about 1:500
(about one ounce to four gallons) with
water and other spray nutrients.
