  1. The question is not what should NC stand for, but rather who are we as North Carolinians. That is, what are North Carolinians about? What are our communities about, what are our businesses about? First and foremost, North Carolinians are about opportunity. when you start answering these questions you understand what North Carolina Stands for. More importantly, you understand what you want to bring to North Carolina in terms of people, business, and organizations.
  2. What supports this claim? From world class universities to the land where flight began, North Carolina is where opportunity begins. The research triangle is one of the most prominent high-tech research and development centers in the United States, and North Carolina workers are 36% more productive than the average U.S. worker.
  3. CNBC scored all 50 states on 51 measures of competitiveness developed with input from business groups including the National Association of Manufacturers and the Council on Competitiveness. States received points based on their rankings in each metric. Then, we separated those metrics into ten broad categories, weighting the categories based on how frequently they are cited in state economic development marketing materials. That way, our study ranks the states based on the criteria they use to sell themselves. http://www.cnbc.com/id/100824779
  4. Missouri Economic Research and Information Center Missouri had the 16th lowest cost of living in the United States for the year. In general, the most expensive areas to live were New England, Alaska, Hawaii, and the West Coast. The least expensive areas were the Midwest and Southern States. MERIC derives the cost of living index for each state by averaging the indices of participating cities and metropolitan areas in that state. Missouri’s cost of living for the 2013 annual index was 92.8, down from the 2012 annual index of 93.0. Cities across the nation participate in ACCRA's survey on a volunteer basis. Price information in the survey is governed by ACCRA collection guidelines which strive for uniformity.1 http://www.missourieconomy.org/indicators/cost_of_living/index.stm *ACCRA has changed its name to C2ER. See http://www.c2er.org/ for details and more data products.
