Massimiliano is an experienced and award-winning architect with an international
backgorund. A diligent and competent designer with a considerable knowledge of
construction processes and project management. He has run and completed a va-
riety of projects in different countries and throughout the whole career he has gained
excellent organizational and creative skills: he is constantly committed to achieve the
high-quality. A responsible designer absolutely at ease with new and existing buildin-
gs, he is trained and specialised in historical and listed buildings, and he completed
restoration projects of palazzos and churches in UNESCO heritage site.
Max is the founder and former Director of BUREAU69
a small award-winning architectu-
re office established in Catania [IT] in 2003 and with a branch in Sao Paulo [BR] since
2016. After Max relocated to London, BUREAU69
has changed the strategy and organiza-
tion and has been transformed into a multi-disciplinary collective wich operates for
medium / large projects and international design competitions. In 2018 BUREAU69
was
finalist at the British Homes Awards design competition with the project “The Shell”
which reinvents the terrace houses in a new visionary and innovative concept. In the
same year Massimiliano’s project “LBA” was selected for the Best Italian Interior Design
Projects 2018, published by Publicomm with the aim to display Italian design globally.
The project has been exhibited at the Italian design Museum Triennale in Milan, Pa-
lazzo Albertini in Forli (It), Palazzo Sforzesco in Novara [IT}, and Miami (USA). The same
project has been awarded in the U.K. as Best Bespoke Office Design 2019.
Overall his carrer Massimiliano worked in Italy, has completed projects in Spain, Brazil
and started his carreer in the UK in late 2017. He ran projects in all stages from concep-
tion to completion in a wide range of areas: high-end residential projects, mixed-use
developments, bespoke interior design, restoration of listed buildings, conversions,
and urban design. He gained a considerable experience in project and construction
management, have been working as Project Manager for main contractors: in this role
he contributed at the completition of the fit-out of three Italian Ikea stores.
Max’s ethos involves collaborations with other professionals and exchange between
different methodologies and approaches: he is convinced that this not only leads to a
better result but also professional and personal growth. He certainly possesses crea-
tive design skill, he is a proficient problem solver, well organised project architect and
team leader with elevated interpersonal aptitude. Preference for architectural details,
use of different materials and constant research in each individual project has drawn
him more specifically towards small and medium scale projects and artisanal inter-
ventions. He is comfortable working with small/ medium scale projects , but also with
larger schemes, including public spaces, urban regeneration projects, building con-
versions and development projects.
Influenced by the Vitruvian idea of the architect’s figure, his career path has been
characterised by a great curiosity for other disciplines, cultures and methods and
resulted in much travel. He studied music and piano for several years and played in
local bands. He also has a passion technology and a deep interest for literature, pho-
tography, and the arts.
Max has advanced organizational skill and a high enterpreneurial approach. In 2014,
he developed a business in tourism. Utilising his design skills, he developped and im-
plemented a web tourist network and marketplace, Self Catering Sicily: an activity that
has seen the refurbishment, restyling and interior design of ancient apartments in the
historic centre of Catania, a UNESCO Heritage Centre, for quality tourist accommoda-
tion purposes. He has also depply passionate for the traditional sicilian cuisine and,
with his family in Sicily, he produces red wine and olive oil in the volcano Etna’s region.
