Concord’s semi-annual DropOff-SwapOff is an event that provides Concord residents the opportunity to recycle, reuse, or dispose of items that have used up their useful life. This popular event typically draws more than 900 households. As the name implies, DropOff-Swapoff is actually two events strategically located at the same site. The SwapOff take-it-or-leave-it portion of the event is a wonderful opportunity for Concord residents to pass on useful, working items to friends and neighbors. The DropOff portion of the event accepts a wide variety of items for recycling and reuse, items that can not be recycled at the curb.
Concord’s DropOff-SwapOff program was established in the late 1990’s when the Town’s landfill (and Swap Shed) was closed. REUSIT had successfully operated the Swap Shed for many years, dating back to the 1970’s. The closure of the landfill resulted in a municipal curbside trash & recycling program…and the DropOff-SwapOff program was developed to provide residents the opportunity to continue pass on useful, working items to friends and neighbors and to recycle and dispose of bulky objects and other items that can not be recycled at the curb.
Entrance to the SwapOff area for residents bringing items to swap.
Volunteers unload “swap-able” items from vehicles, arrange them for other residents to browse and take.
Traffic flow is key.
At the SwapOff, everything from tableware to toys to furniture find new homes. We’ve even had a boat change hands! Everything is free.
The DropOff collects a wide variety of items, including Non-profits collecting still-usable items for reuse (BNB, HGRM, RBMC, C2C) Items that can’t be recycled curbside (electronics, carpet, mattresses, styrofoam, etc….) Bulky items for disposal (oversized waste) Items needing proper disposal (unwanted meds, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, etc….)
