2. What to include in a film review. We aim to include these names in the film review. Cast/stars Director Editor Producer Screen writer Make-up We also will include comments from the directors and the screen-writers, this way we can explain our film and how we came up with the story.
3. Research on film reviews. In this particular film review from Empire Magazine the picture takes up the majority of the page with the actual review being minimal in terms of space.
4. This review also uses a main picture of the action of the film. For our film we could use a picture which is taken from the actual footage, this would show how the film is going to turn out and would give a sneak preview to readers.
5. This review is more complex, there is a main picture and surrounding pictures which are smaller. They all have their own captions to show what is happening in the pictures. Some captions have been enlarged and the background colour has changed to make it stand out. There are also pictures of who was involved with the film.
6. Content of the review. The review of ‘Saturday’ needs to include a short summary of what the film is about, who is in the film and who it’s directed by. Film reviews are usually written by film critics therefore criticismsmay be mentioned in our review. It will also need to mention the strengths of the film and what makes it semantic. As our film in particular has a deeper meaning than what can be first taken from it, this is a chance to unpick the meanings it may connote.
7. Short film reviews (internet) This short film review is quite similar to an ordinary length film review. The review however does more explaining than criticising, the first four paragraphs’ explain the story and characters whereas the last two paragraphs talk about what makes it scary and analyse it more. I think it Is more important to have more explaining for a short film review as they often are very simple but have more meaning which is often hard to grasp without an explanation.
8. A similarity of all film reviews is the rating there is almost always some way to rate the film or give it a score. In Empire there is a star rating, on this website for short films, http://www.filmguru.net/shorts/ , there is a score out of 10.
