Webinar: https://youtu.be/xH3PK9etObA This Webinar Explores National Forum’s Open Licensing Toolkit as Latest Resource for HE Sector https://www.teachingandlearning.ie/publication/the-national-forum-open-licensing-toolkit/ Higher education staff and students are guided on how they find and use OER as well as create and share their work as OER using the Forum’s just published higher education resource the National Forum Open Licensing Toolkit– (itself an OER). Guest speaker Jennryn Wetzler, Assistant Director of Open Education at Creative Commons, brings a wealth of experience and will describe how the use of open licenses and OER can be used to enhance teaching and learning. This webinar is facilitated by Dr. Catherine Cronin, Strategic Education Developer, National Forum, who also focuses on how the National Forum is supporting the use of open licensing and OER, particularly for current Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund projects. This webinar supports the Forum’s current strategy to promote agile, responsive approaches to teaching and learning in an open digital world and to provide targeted support for those who guide and support the use of technology in teaching and learning.

On 29 January 2015, Leicester City Council, in partnership with De Montfort University, held a free day conference for schools focusing on finding, using, creating and sharing Open Educational Resources (OER). The event builds on the council’s recently released OER guidance and resources, which can be downloaded from http://schools.leicester.gov.uk/openeducation During the panel session, Josie Fraser reviewed the permission provided by Leicester City Council to community and voluntary controlled schools, and discussed how schools can take advantage of this. She followed this up with two policy workshops for schools, designed to take them through the process of developing a community based local OER policy.

This presentation introduces a range of contrasting initiatives that have aimed to promote open education policy and practice in Scotland, England and Wales over the last five years. These include the UKOER Programme, Open Scotland, OER Wales, the Welsh Open Education Declaration of Intent, the Scottish Open Education Declaration and the Opening Educational Practice in Scotland project. The paper will reflect on the different approaches taken by these initiatives and ask what Germany can learn from the experiences of open education practitioners in the UK.
The view from Scotland: What can Germany learn from OER initiatives in the UK?
