This document provides an overview of the vegetation found along the Garden Route region of South Africa, known as the Cape Floral Kingdom. It is home to over 8,600 plant species, most of which are endemic. The dominant vegetation is fynbos, which consists of protea, ericoid, restioid, and geophyte plants. Fynbos grows in areas with nutrient-poor soils, summer drought, and regular burning. It is an important economic resource due to its role in water provision and production of plants used for products like tea, flowers, and buchu. The Cape Floral Kingdom's high biodiversity is both unique globally and an important asset for South Africa's tourism industry.
