It is the cultivation of both mindfulness and intentionality in everyday life that will prompt development of wise mind / wise body and optimize mental and physical well-being. In the words of Rene Dubos, “There is an unbroken continuum from the wisdom of the body to the wisdom of the mind.” Although clear mind and focused mind are states of mind that would appear to be conceptually distinct, the synergy of both clear mind (achieved by way of practicing mindfulness) and focused mind (achieved by way of practicing intentionality) can transcend that duality by bringing to bear the “best” features of both. It is not “either/or” but “both/and.” By the same token, although the conscious mind and the subconscious mind (the living matrix / the body ego) would seem to be conceptually distinct, here too the synergy of both wise mind (the result of functional connectivity between the lower-order “emotional” limbic system and the higher-order “cognitive” prefrontal cortex) and wise body (the result of tapping into the wisdom of the living matrix) can enhance overall health by promoting the brain’s neuroplasticity and ongoing ability to reorganize itself. Here too it is not “either/or” but “both/and.”
