- 2. At first, on 1st November, the Church celebrated All Saints day or All Hallows (Saint) where they prayed for the dead. There are references to Halloween on the 31 October since 19th Century. From then, this day was known as the night of the zombies, the witches, ghosts, fairies… So, the name “Halloween” comes from All Hallow Even, the eve (night before) All Hallows day. Therefore, Halloween is the eve of All Saints Day. Origins of the festival!
